air/mixture screw with hole
« on: October 09, 2012, 01:28:48 AM »
So curious about the mixture screw with hole. Some say to JB Weld it. What are the experts opininions? Should they be replaced with solid type, close up, or leave as is.

i like solid ones, you cant enrichen past a cetain point with the drilled ones, they are akin to those idle mixture limiter caps you used to get on smog cars with carbs,i use solder.

Pretty sure I read a comment from Hondaman (in another thread) indicating that you shouldn't fill these holes.  Apparently the carbs that came with solid screws had other changes designed to accommodate the air flow properties of solid screws.  I played around with this in my pod setup and found that it made things even worse.  Ultimately larger idle jets really made the difference.

This whole thought process was the result of noticing lean conditions once the screws were richened up past a certain point. Bigger pilots are on order. There is no question the bike is running on the lean side (K&N pods, Yoshi open exhaust and cycle x ignition, 125 mains up from stock 105), but I found it weird that when adjusting the mixture, it would seem to richen up right before it got a bit leaner. Never getting as rich as I would have liked. Possibly my imagination as well.

42pilots and 130/135mains on the way, I guess I could give the solid mix screws a shot.

solder the pods up and find a baffle.
