Bill will be testing at Valdosta!  ;D Today was finish up root canals, regular work, haircut etc. Maybe can button up top end tomorrow. No real progress today, but hopefully tomorrow.

Sounds real positive.

At least SOMEONE has their's together.

I'm in ATL but can't help out Bill until first of the week.

Yes Jerry,  i've got it together and i even started the bike up tonight. All good there. The question remains, will the bike shift as it should?? This has been an ongoing issue for me starting from the Cup race in Bradenton last season. I parked the bike when we got back and only took it out a few times after making some changes then- it didn't help so i pushed it in a corner of the shop and covered it up until a few months ago. I should have been working on it over time and this wouldn't be a problem for me now. Its not like i didn't know our team was going to make a big showing at the last race of the season. Last minute work always brings about its own special type of headache.

Since i wasn't feeling up to testing tonight, i'll need to make a major effort now to do something in the next two days. Either drive 2 hours to Carolina Dragway tomorrow night, or drive 3 plus hours down to Commerce friday to test ..... test saturday at Darlington on saturday. Obviously the later i wait to get the bike down the track, the more i risk loosing precious days in case i have to order parts or worst case, tear this SOB down again. I AM going to fix this mofo, one way or the other.  One other option to checking out the tranny is to sneak out on the road tomorrow after lunch time and make a hard run to see if it'll shift. Although i used to do a lot of my testing in the road in front of the shop years ago, the heavier volume of traffic and unforgiving law enforcement officers have curtailed my street testing activities. The drawback to street testing is lack of traction- i need this thing to be under full load to get true results.

Well, that knocks off one option. Was only coming that way so we could assist each other. I've got opportunities to test from today up until sunday in my neck of the woods and then back to wednesday and thursday next week if need be. Got both 1/8th mile and  1/4 mile tracks close by me. Would prefer a 1/4 mile pass to see where i stand at this point on a full pass.

So my friend, i'll see you on next friday in Valdosta.

Well I'm damn glad you got yer hair cut!  ;D  You need to get Calendar Girl over to the dyno with Jim. I'll call later. We're heading up to the lake. Be back Sunday. Did you get the grease yet?

In spite of a dismal looking weather forecast, i made it down to Carolina Dragway to test tonight. Only made 2 passes which netted the same results each time. Outcome??? This mofo still will not shift inot 3rd without hitting the shifter button more than once. It does shift to all the other gears just fine. So.... I've got a better frame of reference when i tear it back apart again to repair the problem.

Eventhough i had issues going to 3rd and a horrible head wind, my best pass was as follows; 1.52 sixty foot, 6.80 in the 1/8th and a 10.90 in the 1/4 mile. Sorry, i don't remember the 330 time of mph. Hardly my best passes on this bike but my goal was to see if it would shift correctly- it didn't. I intend to work half day tomorrow, unload the bike from the trailer and yank the engine off again so i can split the cases to take one more look at whats causing my transmission problem.

Alright, it seems one of my comrades at Carolina Dragway did video one of my runs. You can find it on both of the CB 750 Facebook pages. Maybe we can get HOTROD to link to it again like Bill's passes I recorded. Not my best pass but you can hear the 3rd gear hiccup down track. Yes, I bogged the bike off the line and it wheelie a little which killed the 60'.

New battery helped to shift through the gears Jerry but it didn't solve the 3rd gear problem. Since its isolated to one gear, it should be a bit easier to come up with a solution. We'll see this weekend.

Sounds like a good weekend for a Hondamatic. Slower to 60' normally than most with the ability to launch at a lower rpm without bogging. Keep warm everyone.;)

Crap, its another Saturday night and..... No, wait, that's a song. Okay, Saturday night and I'm in the shop again working on this darn Honda. Remembered Big Jim F had given me an 836 engine a few years back. Decided to throw it up on the bench to split the cases so I could inspect the transmission. Its stock but all looks well and the counter shaft output gears match the ratio of the transmission in the bike now. Forks looked good but it see a small imperfection on the drum
The drum in my engine looks good though. Well, I'm I'm the process of pulling the engine back off my chassis to swap transmissions. I intend to double check all the shims in mine first to be sure its set up right before changing out the undercut for the Jim F transmission. I plan to put in an all nighter so I can find a place to test on Sunday. Of this doesn't work, I'm done for the season. I'm not going to even want to see another SOHC til next year.
