OK, OK, it's a distance for me to travel too but it's the only opportunity we get on this continent to see the ultimate in hi tech go fast stuff.

I'm picking up tickets tonight for Saturday's event(fingers crossed). They're sold out online but I found a good deal on Craigslist and will be meeting the fella tonight about an hour North of here. Anyone else gonna be at the races this weekend?

At this point I have extra tickets for Saturday & Sunday. I think there is a pit pass as well.

The pit pass is no longer available. It allows you into the paddock area where the race teams set up for the weekend. The MotoGP bikes are into the garages rather quickly and are kept out of sight.

By the way Sean, if you read this my phone went south this after we spoke so we'll have to hook up in 07.
Man I hope tomorrow is cooler than it was today!

Anyone heading to the track today prepare yourself, it will be brutally hot again.

It is the first time I've seen & heard the 4-stroke GP bikes, it's been a treat. Been around the race game a long time but these bikes are a cut above.

I am, funny that I have cranked the track so many times on Tourist Trophy It looks so familiar. The cork screw is the toughest part of the whole track. Watching it right now..

Re the surface, a lot of AMA riders aren't very happy with the new asphalt.

As far as the weekend went though I was happy to be here, but it was ridiculously hot, ended up in some poison oak Saturday, and it took way way way too long to get out of the facility Sunday.

Maybe I'll do Barber next year!

Just as well, Brent, as I went south around the same time  :P  After about an hour of walking the event venue I got pretty overheated and found a spot of shade by Ducati island and didn't get back up until 2:30. Pretty much in "survival mode" after that. I heard it was 130(F) on the track and I believe it, sure felt like that in the Paddock/Food Court area. Looking forward to '07 and hope to be better prepared to beat the heat.

The races were incredible. My first time and definitely not the last. The speed and agility of the riders was astounding and I only saw the Superbike and Formula Xtreme. Next year I'll plan on attending the weekend so I can catch the MotoGP.

Between attending the race on Saturday and leading a ride on Sunday I've done just under 500 miles the past couple days in temps well over 100(F). 11am and it is already 95 here at work, 105 expected. Bet there's some Gobi Desert dweller laughing his ass off at me for being such a wuss but I am too cooked to care :D :D

Sean,

I understand cooked. I've been to this area a couple times before and never saw this kind of heat, I hope the power doesn't fail - gotta have that ac!

While I raced & since have seen a lot of race tracks but first time at Laguna, super spot, always love elevation changes for a bike course, but the trade-off is it's not particularly spectator friendly, and it was just too hot to walk all the way around to see every corner. Nicky on his GP screamer lapped over 3 seconds faster than brother Tommy in the superbike race. That's what I wanted to experience, that & the sound, incredible

Sunday it took us 2&1/2  hours to get on a bloody bus, a real disaster in that heat, any other day their bus plan worked well. There were probably double the people on Sunday, so it overtaxed the evac plan!

Stay cool & to hell with the Gobi dudes.
