78 cb750F, what to do

I just picked up this 78 SS, I'm trying to figure out what to do with it, all chrome is perfect, paint sucks but she's all original, motor smokes though, like I hear they all do, anyone have any input on what I should do.

or should I just get cutting on it?

what are you trying to do to it?

how many miles? tires good? brakes? cables/hoses? wiring?

Going back to stock? or going in a different direction?

They definitely don't all smoke - sounds like its worth doing some engine work maybe. How many miles?

8k miles, everything is perfect honestly, missing the air filter though, tires were suposedly replaced about 5 years ago everything works flawlessly, except the engine smoking issue. I'm trying to figure out what I want to do with it though, I like this style although I'm honestly more interested in the K series of bikes.


 air box rubbers are even soft and pliable to boot.

Smoking at 8000 miles is probably nothing more than valve seals. When I replaced my valve seals not long ago (when the smoking started at 40,000+miles) the normally soft and pliable seals actually shattered as I removed them. Engine removal is required to get the valve cover off, but I was able to replace my valve seals in a weekend, riding again by Sunday afternoon. No more smoking!

Is the bike new to you?  If it had been sitting and oil was not recently changed you could merely have gas in the oil. More info is needed ...Larry

had the bike for about ten days, oil tank got drained and refilled by me.

I'm not really certain what I want to do with a honda, I'm most interested in old kaw 900/1000s, so obviously, I'm clueless what I would want to do with/to a bike like this.

I honestly only have it cuz she was free.

only problem is around here kaws go for 3 or 4 times as much as this thing would fetch, kind of grown on me though. I'd flip it if it would get me anywhere really. But, I'm starting to like it a little bit.

Anyone build one of these basically back to stock?

"What to do?" Ride the #$%* out of it like its your last day on earth and you just found out all the drinkin you did as a kid has produced more prodgeny and alimony checks than you will afford in a life time and you're on the great wall of china lookin for a ramp to jump into space. Do it now before you get sucked into that souless black hole they call "the rebuild/restoration project" and your only way out is selling a kidney 'cause who needs those anyway and hell you probably already ruined one when you picked it up and realised that"stuff" leaking all over your fingers was break fluid and your liver no feels like it drank a quart of everclear.

I think it'll make a great "project" bike you'll enjoy for many years. just do what feels right and comfortable with your personal style and riding habits.
