NEW and in need of pipes

Hi,

Im new to the forum. Looks like an excellent resource and a great community. I am currently building/customising a 1973 CB500. Of course I am encountering difficulty sourcing parts for the ol girl so would be interested in anyone now of any other wreckers or retailers beyond puds and tiaro in Qld for cb bits. Also I am trying to source some header pipes for this bike. If anyone has some laying around they would like to offload please let me know. One other question has anyone attempted to register a bike in NSW without a frame compliance plate. Seems the PO removed it, FKW? If it was for a frame respray it was fairly ordinary.. I spoke to someone at the jazzy new roads and maritime moneypit but she had no idea. No doubt Ill be made to jump through numerous hoops and surmount the insurmountable but it would be good to know where to start. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Re compliance plate. A 73 would not have had one. These plates did not come in until 76. You could be refering to the manufacturers plate, if it had one, not all did. My 76 CB750F1 had neither.

As for parts, as you are in Squidley you could try Steve at Old Gold Motorcycles, Londonderry. ph 02-45742885. There are are plenty of options on ebay including some nice Motad sets. pricey but nice.

Dave Silver Spares in the UK, I bought a set for my 650 from them a couple of months ago, they were half the price I could get them locally and they were sitting on my doorstep 4 working days after I ordered them ;D.

I Just rechecked, Tranzac do have 500 pipes in their product list, Forum member "Terry in Australia" has bought pipes from them in recent years.

really appreciate the help. Krusty in regard to the bike not having a compliance plate, it should have a frame/vin no somewhere though no? There is nothing on the headstem..? thks.

I had a frame like that on an old 750 drag bike, i don't know if the numbers "fell off" or, like the cases, replacement frames were numberless....  You can apply for a number through the police here in in Queensland as long as you are certain its not stolen... Not sure about down south...  I would sand some paint off the head stem and see if there ever was a number...
