Who me President?
« on: October 27, 2012, 12:09:46 AM »
Well I purchased a 1400 Boulevard just before December 2011 and finally having a totally reliable large capacity machine set about doing some serious riding again. I started tagging along with some guys I knew and after a while began arranging weekend rides for staff at the prison I work in. The Prez of the Blue Knights (Police MC) rides with me regularly so I asked him can we Corrections Officers join the BK's but nah there was a technicality which ruled that out so I began searching for an MC that accepted us CO's. I found the "Hard Chargers" which is mainly an East Coast USA MC but it has chapters across the states. The Prez regretted that we had no Chapter here in New Zealand that we could join but he was happy for us to apply to create one. So know you know how Hush gets to be the Prez of an MC ha ha, actually it's a lot of work but I'm good at arranging things and with 19 prisons in NZ and many staff that ride it is growing nicely. My kids reckon I've watched too many hours of Sons of Anarchy but the need was there for a group and we just created it. We have been invited to the 2015 anniversary of the Hard Chargers somewhere in the states and a group of us are dead keen on attending, anyone got a bike I can borrow? ;D
I think the thing I most like about motorcycling is the speed at which my brain must process information at to avoid the numb skulls who are eating pies, playing the ukulele, applying make-up etc in the comfort of their airconditioned armchairs as they make random attempts to kill me!!!!!!!

BACA seems quite an agressive way of curbing aggression, sounds like they do good works which I guess is all that matters.
Our MC is for family and community, a way to meld our love of bikes with social events and supporting charity rides etc.
It's early days for our NZ MC but I see good things happening for us.
We have been invited on charity rides with the Blue Knights (Police) Red Knights (Fire dept) White Knights (Ambos) as a way of raising our profile in the community.
I would be very interested in contacting a Corrections biker group in Australia if there is one.

Maybe... depends upon when and where! I've got two projects (besides my regular ride) coming together (the when) one of which will be completed within weeks. The proximity to Florida (the where) would be the other determining factor.  8)

Wait too long and the project bikes might get sold!   :o

It depends on where you work for CO's. The technicality for BK membership I think you're talking about is statutory arrest powers are mandatory for membership. If you work in a county jail like me, you've got statutory arrest powers if you're working the booking area or intake. That's how I got into the BK.

Ask your warden or major if there's any post in your prison that enables you to have the statutory arrest powers. You don't have to work that post, but if there is one then you should be good to go.

Hey Bonesaw, yes I have powers of arrest on any prison property in New Zealand under Sec 26 but Blue Knights here insist on arrest powers outside prison boundaries, it's all good, I'm enjoying pulling this MC together and we needed something for CO's.
