'78 750F Brake/MC help....
« on: October 29, 2012, 06:33:03 AM »
I purchased a new Master Cylinder from an ebay seller that i've seen recommended a few times on this site. When i got it this weekend and went to put it on, i realized the switch for the brake light is different. My new MC/brake lever has a "plug" with two prongs on it.....the old switch now isn't compatible as far as i can tell. Here's a photo of what the new switch looks like....

here's a photo of the old switch for comparison....

is there a way for me to solder the wires from the old switch to this new plug, or am i going to have to try and return this MC/brake combo? Is there a compatible plug i can purchase and attach to the existing wires to "plug" into this new one? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Rather than cut the old switch off, I would remove the old switch and wires to their point of connection in the headlight bucket. I would the run two new wires from the bullet connectors in the headlight bucket to the spade connectors at the new switch. That way you've got the original switch left intact if you decide to revert back to the stock setup. Otherwise, you could cut the old switch off and crimp female spade connectors to the end of the existing wires.

I didn't even think about crimping on spade connectors o_O.....I may end up doing that. Thanks for the input. The top was rusted shut/seized up on the old MC, so that's why i decided to replace the entire thing instead of rebuilding it....i doubt i'll ever revert back, but will save it just in case! thanks!
