K2 frame
« on: November 04, 2012, 04:38:25 AM »
Hi
I just start my K0 project but the frame has some damage..serviceable but will cost so i was wondering if i can use a K2 frame that i have and its perfect.
Is K2 frame exactly the same with K0 frame?
Please advice

Parts book shows the K0 frame as a unique part number up to serial number 1003950.
From 1003951 forward the K0 shares the same frame with the K1.  That frame then suprecedes
to the K2 frame part number.  So that seems to indicate that the frame from K0 1003951 through
K2 are compatible.

Not sure, but you may have to get different rubber mounting bushings to fit the K0 side covers.  Are you using any
other K2 parts besides the Frame?

There would be a lot more value to the machine being a K0 if you could keep and use the original frame. Is the engine also original to the frame ?  Is it bent really bad or have some major rust issues ??

Yes, the K2 frame will interchange. Use your K0 oil tank and covers will work fine. Actually, I think the K0 oil tank cover will fit on the K1-K6 oil tanks.

Ok, I remember now.   The K1 and later frames had elongated holes for the side cover rubber bushings.
They will move slightly in the elongated holes and allow you to mount the K0 side covers. At least that's
what I remember reading on this forum before.

First question. Do you have a clean/good Title for the 1972 frame? If not Stop there. I noticed you haven't said what is wrong with your frame. Just a couple of things to get things further along.   ...cougar...

Your K2 frame will work fine, everything from your K0 will bolt up to it, as has been said earlier, use your K0 oil tank to mount your right side cover.

As Eric mentioned though, a K0 engine and parts mounted in a K2 frame makes it a "Bitsa" ("Bits of this, and bits of that") so if you can't afford to repair the K0 frame, keep it, and when you sell the bike, tell every prospective customer that you have the correct frame to go with it, and you'll get a lot more money for it. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"

Thanks guys
Well..my K0 frame has some brackets welder on..nothing big..but the previous owner cut the bolts that rear shocks fit..
Now..the K2 frame has only some rust but nothing else...
Everything else i will use from K0...
My only problem is fitting front forks...
I will use K0 triple tree with K2 fork tubes..
But i didnt measure the K2 tubes diameter...
Could a K2 tube fit to a K0 leg? or a K0 tube fit to a K2 leg?
Cause i have 2 good tubes...one K0 and one K2...
