Brake rebuild questions
« on: November 10, 2012, 03:16:59 PM »
Ok so the project bike I bought had, I thought, everything I needed to rebuild the brake system.

I've polished the MC, Caliper, soon the hydraulic switch. I have a new caliper piston seal, MC rebuild kit, brake pads (kevlar?) and my piston is in good condition.

So on to my questions!

I recently came across a thread on vacuum grease, what is it and do I really need it? Where all do I put it?

Is there a way to do the electrical with the OEM equipment but a single line not through the hydro switch?

If I'm still using the hydraulic light switch what brake line set is recommended?

Looking at diagrams it seems I have a k4 break arm and I have a k2 bike (i think forks too). I believe im missing part of attachment bracket. Number 4 in this diagram. Anyone know where i can get one? http://images.cmsnl.com/img/partslists/front-brake-caliperdisk-cb750-four-k4-us_bighu0105f1306_1ebb.gif

Also my number 12 is upside down and I can't seem to get it out to remedy that. Any suggestions.

Thanks for any advice!

I appply the grease on the sliding part of the brake pad. Do not get it on the pad surface. Otherwise lots of water and dirt get in there and makes the piston corrode.
As for the parts I would say local honda dealer or ebay.

- K2 used C bracket, what you have on the picture is  a T bracket - must be from K3 or later. See here:

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb750k2-four-usa_model14362/partslist/F06.html#results

If the bracket you have fits your fork, it means that your fork is K3 or later.  K0-K2 forks are not compatible with K3 and later brake brackets.

- #4 - at ebay, or here in wanted section.

- member here makes custom SS brake lines, highly recommnded:

- vacuum greese is for brake pads surfaces that slide on the caliper wall.  In the service manual there is a picture showing where to grease.  It is also recommended to polish those surface first to make them move smooth.

Is there a way to do the electrical with the OEM equipment but a single line not through the hydro switch?

The later MC assemblies (77/78 750K) have a mechanical switch at the lever and a single hose to the caliper

I believe im missing part of attachment bracket. Number 4 in this diagram.

A picture would help confirm what you've actually got

Also my number 12 is upside down and I can't seem to get it out to remedy that. Any suggestions.

Pressing it out would be the least likely to do damage. If that's not an option then break out the hammer and a block of wood (to prevent mushrooming the end of the pivot pin). This pin should be removed and thoroughly cleaned, as well as the bore it rides in. This pivot pin should move freely and can lead to sticky brakes if it does not. I use a little anti-sieze on the pin to prevent future corrosion. Again, a picture would help alot.

Brake rebuild questions
« Reply #5 on: November 13, 2012, 05:12:05 AM »
O well now I'm really really hoping my works and brakes are compatible.

Is it just the arm bracket that I need to worry about? Do all brake calipers fit both types of brackets?
