Soon to be CB750 Owner in Santa Cruz Ca
« on: November 10, 2012, 10:11:21 PM »
Hi all. I just bought a 78 CB750 supersport from a workmate without even seeing it.  I have no idea of the condition but the price seemed worth the risk. I should have it this week sometime. I am new to bike rebuilding although I did work on getting a CB550 running a few years back. This seems like a great forum - I'm sure I'll need a lot of help.

  Thanks - Paul

I picked up the bike yesterday. Looks to be in great shape. 31K miles, not running though. So far only a bit of rust on the exhaust. The tank is also a bit rusty inside. There was a full tank of gas in there from the 90's.  From reading around here it sounds like electrolysis will do the trick on cleaning the tank up. Not sure how to fit the electrodes in there though.
Anyway thats a job for tomorrow.

Congrads PM ;) 78 supersport looks do be all there and in decent shape to. Did you buy it from the original owner? Know any history on it? How long has it been sitting and not running. Most of these sohc4 Honda's even if been sitting even for years just need TLC and they are good to go.

Congrats. Looks complete and in great shape. Doesn't sound like it will be too hard to get it running!

Yes it was the original owner. Its been sitting in his garage and hasnt been started since 1992 I think. The only issue he remembers is an oil leak which he tried to fix with liquid gasket. I'll get the proper gasket on order. Other than that and cleaning the fuel tank and carbs and doing the 3000mile service I should be able to get it fired up.
