About to order 2x emblems from an Australian reproduction place. It's about $100 total for both emblems including shipping. I know of no other place that has '78k side cover emblems. I'm going to give myself two weeks before placing the order, and then I've got to bite the bullet.

I'm also going to concurrently place an order on a Valley Green Metallic paint kit (with primer).

Well, that was hell, but it wasn't the worst thing I've had to do (getting a stuck rear-axle out takes the cake). After abandoning the "force and pry" tactic and resorting to the penny method, it created a much easier job. I don't know any other way that this could have gone on with a chain installed.

The job begins. I've been using this waterproof grease for about everything both for lubrication and to keep parts from rusting. You can find it at any Honda shop. Lubing the main stand axle is probably a really good idea.

Showing a good pry location for loading pennies in. Switch the spring around and repeat to the other side.  Unlike what the picture shows, start loading the inside of the spring first.

Take it over to a vice, and tighten the pennies in to give you more length in the spring.

When you're just a hair away, use some pliers and some force to complete the job. Damn.

Finished. Move the center stand down and remove the pennies using a rotating motion with pliers.

I bet she's really happy to have a restored pair of feet.

Taillight assembly restoration complete. I went with two stainless allen bolts. Thinking about putting two more on the bottom, but that may be overkill. I suppose if there's flapping and what not, then all four corners should be secure?

Two bolts is adequate for the plate unless it's super flimsy.
MUF?  Is that what you named the bike?!

Of the three SOHC Hondas in my garage right now, none came with a center stand.
Coincidence or explanation?!

MUF just happened to be the name on the plate. When I saw it, I should have requested MUF DVR.  8)

Just got confirmation on a place to get epoxy on the stuff. Lets just say that it's heated, downdraft, and state if the art. Can't say where though.

Pretty crappy reason for an update, but I have the exhaust back on.

And I also got all the electricals hooked back up to the battery tray (thanks ToyTuff for the grommet).

Now, paint. Stay tuned for some body work, my favorite part.

Looking very nice!

Did you replace the exhaust gaskets?

You know, I'm not even sure the bike has gaskets. I certainly didn't see any. My dads '79 didn't have any either, so I assume they didn't exist.

Where's a good place to buy four of these without getting nailed with atrocious shipping? The bike has ran fine without them, but I suppose they are good to have.

EDIT: I'm sure I have exhaust gaskets as I've just read that they blend in with the head., and the bike would run obviously like crap without them. I don't plan on replacing these soon, but eventually. I would think that draining/replacing my fork fluid, rebuilding the master cylinder (not sure if this is needed or not), draining the brake fluid, replacing the rubber brake hoses with braided ones would be more important. Oh yea, and I need a new battery.

I haven't drained the engine oil yet, but I checked it when it arrived and it looked pretty good.

I always sit down and make a parts list. I don't have extras but yes, copper gaskets set between the pipe and the head.

I really don't want to pull a pipe back off again, but it would be very obvious if I didn't have gaskets, right?

If I told you how many times I did things twice well.....

Yup, pull them off if you are not sure. Do it right.

Why stop now as the bike is looking good. You'll sleep nights too!

Once the gaskets crush they expand and stick in the head. You probably have some flattened form a gasket stuck in there. New ones would be better though of course. The pre-crushed ones tend not to seal very well.

I was going to ask too, but figured he did it. They are crush washers and most likely will leak if not changed.  I dug em out with a small screwdriver last week on my K5 before mounting the Kerker.
About $2 ea, your local dealer should stock them, no shipping then.
