Any resident Kawa single 2 stroke experts?
« on: November 15, 2012, 10:31:50 AM »
Hi all,

I recently picked up a 1971 Kawasaki F7 175 enduro for $100.  Looks to be salvageable - the carb is rough and it's missing the petcock and the carb cover, but otherwise fairly complete and workable.  Pics when I find time!

Anyone have any resources for this thing?  It seems parts are only available on EBay, and I'm not a 2 stroke guy by any stretch - new territory.  Any useful info or resources much appreciated!

FTR, the plan is a sort of street tracker.  I'm thinking of a Suzuki TM front end for the 21" wheel and the aluminum rim, better brakes and I've heard the F7 forks aren't great either.

SR, I am in exactly the same boat.  I can't find a downloadable manual for my f7.  I think mine would be pretty easy to get running but it is mostly unfamiliar territory for me too.  I don't fully understand the electrical/ignition system/s...plus, yeah there's that whole two-stroke thing...
If it works good, it looks good...

You could try these guys http://vintagekawasaki.com/webshop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=90&zenid=1g8fgcl177ebbtdo0n1c0hm015    My buddy had a 74 in High school and it was a rocket for it's size. Must be the Rotary Valve intake.

thanks, that is a good link...now if I could just find a link to a service manual I could know where to start on this thing...this has been drivin' me crazy, why does it have two spark plugs and only one lead? is the second just an extra?

I'm thinking of buying a Clymer manual, and yep, I joined the vintage kawasaki single group, but even there, info is scant.  I was also puzzling over the damn spark plugs!  Hah.  This will be, if nothing else, a learning experience.

The 2nd plug is just an extra in case the other fouls, so you just switch the cap over. Cool project you have there.
