Good job on checking it out for certain. Sometimes on these forums, legends get bandied about for so long that half truths become facts.

Bike build regression. Ugh.

The story behind this is that in order to ensure a good engine/frame ground is to strip all the points where they connect, leaving those surfaces clear of any powder coat and paint. The best way to do this, in my case now, is to remove the engine from the frame and basically start all over again. Oh, fun.
Someday, I swear, this is gonna float...

Minimo,

I ran into the same problem after powder coating my frame and engine. Rock Loc Beige pads on a rotary will strip the coating back to bare metal without destroying the surrounding PC as long as you are careful,

Mask up the surrounds for extra protection.

Yup, that's exactly what I'm saying (as well as hitting the corresponding frame areas). I'm using something like a cheapy drill version of the 3M Rocloc that I had around http://m.homedepot.com/p/Avanti-Pro-4-in-x-1-in-Non-Woven-Drill-Mount-Quick-Strip-Disc-PNW040100D01G/202830913
It's working pretty well. Had to follow it up with some sandpaper in some areas, around 100 grit. Polish it up again and blow out all the dust.

In-N-Out is not junk food. It's something to savor. Lots of gourmet burger offerings in LA but I wish they all could be a Double Double.

Spoiled brake fluid looks like spoiled cottage cheese.
I wanted to mock up the handlebar and MC/clutch and connect it to the front brake caliper to pump out and replace the piston but the old cottage cheese brake fluid has clogged the line and fittings... May have to replace the master cylinder parts now as well.

May be best of junk food???.....

Remove the m/c kits and clean them real good. You may be able to reuse the old kits to pump out the piston.

Uh-oh. So trying to install the wheel. The disc side clamped down fine, mating nicely with the axle nut, like so:

But on the other side, the front axle doesn't quite make it flush or even halfway passed the axle clamp:

I loosened the triple tree clamp bolts to see if that would adjust the axle but nothing. Are the fender mounting brackets spreading my forks too wide? Should I squish 'em back in?

So, maybe these forks are slightly bow-legged. A little adjustment was necessary, so I loosened all the triple clamps except for one at top (disc side). With the axle in hand (sans wheel) I kept twisting the fork pipe until I found a good position. With each slight turn of the fork pipe I could see the ends of the axle protruding more to where I wanted it; flush with the axle clamp. That pretty much did it. Popped the axle back through the wheel, locked down the axle nut and lined the wheel back onto the fork lowers and clamped it all down via SohRon's assembly instructions. Voila. Merry Christmas ⛄️⛄️
