Topic: motor cleaning

So I'm looking for anyone in the Indianapolis area that can clean a motor well enough that it can hold paint? I've been cleaning it myself but and getting tired of doing it the long way....or does anyone have a suggestion...

I use the CRC Brakeclean to degrease, along with a bronze brush from an auto detailing kit. Lacquer thinner on Q-Tips gets the nooks and crannies, along with a screwdriver to pry the thicker stuff out.

If you can get it to a carwash, plug the in & out ports by covering the top end with several plastic bags, and the oil ports (if it is a 750 engine) with some duct tape, with 4 6x16 screws to hold it down when wet. Then just blast away, and use their degreaser solvent. It takes about $5 here, but in Colorado we only get 1 second per cent for our quarters because water is so expensive.

thanks! I actually have the motor taken apart so that should make it easier....I was looking out there to see if there is anyone that knows of a company that can just dip it in a solvent that eats away the grease or something like that...I'll give the car wash a shot

EZ Off oven cleaner yellow can wins the nastiest battles. S-100 is my favorite all-time for the best finish.

De-greasing is the big problem for holding new paint................When you think its clean.........give it another shot. You may want to investigate the DIY soda blaster.............then apply acetone as a paint prep and begin painting ASAP.

I now have a 4-year old paint job on my 750 motor...........its stating to peel next to an exhaust port........I think I helped to start the process by getting too close with a power-washer nozzle while the motor was hot.
