for fathers day I bought my dad a leather riding jacket and let him take my bike out for a spin. I was not so concerned about him. he used to race professional motocross in the 80s and then amateur in the 00s. he has owned several street bikes including a cb450. I was just worried about watching my bike go down the road without me on it for the first time. I do not like this feeling. motorcycles are very personal for a reason. especially after 6 months of hard work! he really enjoyed it though and said everything feels and sounds fine. its good to have another opinion because my own hold no water due to lack of experience.

I am fairly certain he is going to be getting a bike soon now he is a Harley guy, so unfortunately no 750 build for him. thats ok, when I actually get any sum of money again I'll be looking for a new project.

Did not have a chance to see my motorcycle in that situation yet.

Yeah stevo I was never really into bikes. Too scared. I would even be there on the gate warming up his bike. All the races etc. I like to I serve things. I just don't like observing someone else on my bike

too emotionally attached to this one, it is my first bike.

It was a great Father's Day. We kids all cooked out burgers and brats and he gave me an old brown bomber jacket. Can't wait for it to cool down a tad to wear it. Great day overall. I was able to lean out my mixture a little more because my Plugs were black. Gonna fine tune again today and ride for the first time with a buddy!

Keep in mind that the carb screws only affect mixture at idle and the very low end of throttle. If you think you are running rich at operating speeds then you will need to adjust the needle position and/or the jets themselves.

I am a little embarrassed to admit that while I knew that in the back of my head, I did not really think about it. it obviously makes perfect sense. so now I have no idea what my air screws are doing. I havent just let it idle and then checked em....I check them after a ride.

Today I noticed something for the first time. I took it to WOT in 2nd gear for the first time ever and I got some popping so immediately backed down. I am not sure if this is a lean or rich characteristic. I have 110 mains to match my 341 pipes. my needle clip has moved up one from center lowering the needle (leaning it). I need to do some more reading I suppose, and then start doing real plug chops to see whats going on. I mean...its running seemingly fine for now...thanks for the support guys. I learn something new everyday

today I learned that riding in a "little" bit of rain still hurts when the rain hits you.

Chef - popping on WOT could be lean, motor wants more fuel.

Hey tews, I will increase my jet size back to stock and raise that needle back up and see if that helps. thanks for the good info

Stevo thanks for the link. I have read through most of it and I am most definitely running lean! I will get back to 120 mains and middle needle clip and start testing from there!

I also found out that there is supposed to be a little seal in the tach housing on the cam cover. I feel like a moron some days. I was getting obvious leakage there. now that I have the proper seal in there, I have no weeps or leaks. its nice to be dry for once. pretty sure I ruined a pair of jeans from the oil leaks

My bike's stock settings are 105 mains and needle 4th from the top which is what I have it on now. Seems to run pretty well.

Sounds like you're definitely lean though.

not much in the way of an update, but I have put 1900 miles on the bike and the plugs look great. seems to be dialed in and today I was getting 50mpg!

I don't have any gasket leaks like before, but I am getting some kind of weeping on the right front side of the engine, around the fins. not really sure what it is, but it is not bad and it does not drip at all. just gets a little spray on the right side cover. I am not too worried for now. I still have no replaced my clutch (it slipped when I got it up to 93 in 4th gear. I have not tried to go that fast or rev that high again though, and it has not slipped so I am not worried for now. I have new fiber plates, metal plates, and springs standing by though.

my "piss poor rebuilt" starter did not work. I bought another one and have a complete starter rebuild kit coming. going to get a local shop to hopefully clean and rebuild it, then drop it in (gotta buy new side gaskets again). at least this way I can eliminate the starter as the issue. maybe I should pick up a low-mile reduction gear as well, and an OEM solenoid. if that doesnt work.....its just meant to be a kicker only

been enjoying the hell out of this bike. I try to ride it everywhere I can. I am definitely going to get another soon. hoping for a 76F. want to do a CR inspired build. I love the sleekness. when I decide to do the above mentioned stuff I will update this. but for now things have been well! thanks for all the support guys.

just a happy little update. I have now put 3600 miles on her and she is still running like a dream. zips through city traffic when I need her to, and cruises on the highway as well. Just enough power and speed to get me into trouble

I still have no working starter but I can get her to start on one kick so I dont even care anymore. the electric start is on the backburner for now.

I still have a slight amount of weeping on the front of the engine, but I never really touched the engine to begin with, so I am (slowly) looking for another engine to fix up and drop in. even took her up to Atlanta (500 miles roundtrip) and although my butt was a little sore, she made the trip just fine with no issues. I am hoping to take her up on september 29th for the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride in ATL.

Just my $0.02, but I'm not up for riding in a suit and tie. I'm less about dressing up, and more about riding -- and a suit and tie tend to get in the way in the wind, plus I'd rather not ruin any of my suits by having the wind pull at seams and tear them apart. That said, everyone is entitled to their own thing and I hope you enjoy the event.

I tend toward thrift store suits and a bow tie for the Distinguishes Gentlemen's Ride. It's usually a good laugh and a nice ride with some decent chaps.

yeah, I'm not going with a fine suit considering I have to fold it in a backpack for 250 miles first before I get there. bowtie and vest is on my list!
