Question about spoke angle
« on: December 29, 2012, 11:57:19 PM »
I'm looking at a set of shouldered alloy rims. The 2.15 x 18'' rear is listed as "predrilled at 22 degrees for drum brake applications." The 1.85 x 19'' front is listed as "predrilled at 10 degrees for spool hub applications"

I'm using a front hub off a 78 K and a rear hub off a 76F. I understand the rear hub I'm using is for a disc, but the diameter of the hub where the spokes go is the same (at least roughly) as that of a stock drum brake wheel.

Anyone happen to know what spoke angle should be? Thanks

I too would be interested about the rear wheel set up. Shorter spokes, diff angle?
Where do you get your rear spokes from for a rear disk setup?
cheers Stew

Sorry,I'm not understanding you question. Where did I get a rear disc brake hub for a spoke wheel? That came off a 76F. Any year model F should have been available with a spoke wheel. If you mean the spokes themselves,I don't have any yet. I'll probably source them from Buchanan's

Measure yours, or measure the angle of 2 opposing spokes, then divide that in half.

I could do that. But I dont have a rear to measure. I can measure the front on my other bike. But I dont have a rear to measure.

I have an update for this. A happy update :) I took a chance and pulled the trigger on these rims. They got here today. I laced up these rims to my hubs with stock spokes and the angles and spoke lengths were bang on perfect.

Admittedly, they are a no-name rim. I can live with that. The plus side to that is there are no printings are markings on the rims anywhere, which I really dig. Anyway, for $149 each shipped to my door, and the fact that they are a direct replacement for a stock 750 rim, makes me a happy boy today  :)

These same-ish rims from Buchanan's are way more. Excel's from Buchanan's run $245 each and polishing is another $90 per wheel. The quality of the rim looks great to me and the polish job is really nice. Not what i would consider show polished, but for a rider I would imagine it's what a show polished rim would look like after a few months ;D Ebay to the rescue ($$$) again!

I plan to use the stock spokes. Mine are faded, but I'm just gonna PC them gloss black. The hub I have came off a '76F . It was an 18'' rim. That's the beauty of these particular rims,by pure luck, that they fit perfect with stock spokes and nipples.

The rear disc hub and the rear drum hum have the same diameter were the spokes go through.  Basically, they are the same. Vintagecb750.com has rear spokes with nipples for $35 for the set -18". $29.99 for the set -19"

Oh, for the record, I haven't bought the spokes vintage sell to know 100% that they will work. But when I measured my 76F disc hub against my 78K hub I could not see any differences dimensionally anywhere. Just wanted to be clear on that. As far as I know, and I could very well be wrong, all hubs front and rear are interchangeable on the 750's. But don't qoute me on that. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable can chime in here.
