Holy axles, Batman!!
« on: July 14, 2006, 04:08:11 PM »
Where the hell is mine????  I felt a weird shimmy in the front while stopping at the grocery store on the way home.  I looked things over at home and seem to be missing #26; "Axle, FR. Wheel" on the attached parts diagram. Have I been running without an axel or am I nuts????

Looks right.  If you had the wheel off the forks there would be a through hole to help disassemble the axle to replace the bearings.

So the axle is flush, and doesn't stick out?  And the accompaning nut is internal so you just see the last thread or two?  My 175 is totally different with an honest-to-god axle with two external nuts.  I looked at the 550 and it seemed like the rusty end of a sheared off something or another was visible about 1/2 way into the wheel shaft, thought it broke and was 1/2 gone, with the other 1/2 in the process of working it's way through the shaft after having lost it's nut.

Your photo's are exactly as it should be mate, stop worrying. Cheers, Terry. ;D
I was feeling sorry for myself because I couldn't afford new bike boots, until I met a man with no legs.

So I said, "Hey mate, you haven't got any bike boots you don't need, do you?"
