After reading a couple of posts in another thread from 1977/1978 CB owners it's time to represent the black sheep of the CB series.

You guys hiding in the corner whispering " I have a 77/78 model" can come out now.

Don't be afraid, lets see them. Be a "77/78 models are cool 2" member.

The 77/78 supersports are actually the fastest, have the best handling and superior braking of the entire SOHC4 CB750 series.
Pretty comfortable seat, too.

My entry into this prestigious group. '78k dubbed 'The Mutt' has a '71k engine.
I have an '78F3 motor slowly coming together to drop in when finished.

I only have 77/78 k models. So all the parts are interchangeable

My 77K, I have since put on the proper side covers and changed out the brake light. Stock seat is tucked away in case I need to put it back on.

1978 CB550K. This is the most comfortable, best handling bike I own.

...don't tell anyone my Frankenbike has a 77/78k motor. I don't even know which year it is cuz someone filed off the engine number.

My kids 750 is an F'n K, it's a 73K with 77F seat and tank. It'll have a 77K engine in it this spring because the original 73 750 engine is showing it's age in every aspect and needs a complete rebuild while the 77K 750 engine is a low mileage engine and near pristine inside.

I am going to get a 78F as soon as the present owner gets a replacement for a lost title. This one found me and I was not even looking.

Here is what I don't like about the 77 & 78;

I don't like the gas tank and how the cap is recessed. Maybe I should reword that to I like it less than the tank with the chrome gas cap on top. Why? I think the gas cap on top has more of a vintage look to it. Less sport bike and more European style.

I don't like the front fender. I like the fender to have two chrome support bars. Again this is because I like the vintage look that the two bars gives you.

I don't like the seat with two levels on it. I prefer the seat on one of these bikes to be flat. Can you tell that I like the classic look more than the modern sportier look?

The last thing I don't like is the exhaust. It looks like a cheaper knock off version of the older exhausts.

With that said, I would own a 77 or 78 in a heartbeat. The things I don't like about them are not enough to out weigh the things I do like. Given the choice between a 76 or a 77 I would take the 76 every time. Given the choice between a 77 or a modern sport bike I would take the 77 in a heartbeat.

I'm just yanking your chain though, I like all the years of SOHC CB's. My 77 the most but I'm biased
