Where and when do you anticipate hitting North Carolina?

As soon as someone presents a proposed route and schedule for the area. If you want to be included in the first leg, then someone would need to present a proposed route (with dates) to show how they intend to connect the downstream dots (somewhere in AL or MS). Not much time left (less than two weeks), so if marshalling the forces to include more of the Southeast coastal states is out of reach for now, then plans can be made to try and include them when the relay comes back across (mid to late summer?). I don't have the resources (time) to devote to this like I have for the past two years, but I will do what I can. I am flexible right now for the meeting spot (Waycross, Hazelhurst, Mcrae, or even Savannah), but what sparse communication there has been looks like Hazelhurst is starting to gel...

Hi guys,
I just want to mention again that I can meet a Georgia group and return to Birmingham.  I think maybe Bluto or another rider or riders?  I had proposed a meetup at FDR National Park south and west of Atlanta.  Then I would turn back for Birmingham.

However, I don't see anyone signed up in Mississippiso I might need to go North to Tennessee.  I am not sure I could make Louisiana to hand off to the Texas contingency.

Maybe a Tennessee handoff and they could go to Arkansas?  I haven't looked at the Arkansas and Oklahoma rider map...

There are still options open, but time is running out quick. If more states are traversed during the first cross-country trip, then there are fewer states to try and pick up later, but to pick up more states in the beginning will likely take more time, since most can only ride on the weekend. Just to make photo ops at bike week in Daytona, and continue on to Savannah or Hazelhurst means I will have to take a Friday off in order to be home by Sunday, and that's to cover something between 600 and 800 miles (round trip). If fewer states are covered in the begining, then the Westward trek will likely go more quickly, but more time may be consumed later if there are efforts made to cover states that are missed. Kind of a double-edged sword. To be included often requires thought, planning, and communication with riders on both the delivery side and the recieving side. The only "plans" are the ones we create!

Keep the ideas coming!

Kpier - did you reach out to Bluto?  I'm sure he's in, so plan on a meet up with him.

March is too early to go to TN, please plan to have zilla continue west.
Worst case scenario, box him to Hou, and maybe we can pick up MS and LA on the way back. Have not heard back from Hope in LA yet.

Just checked and it seems Hope hasn't been active on the forum since the latter part of October, '12.  Hope to hear from her though.

Potentially less than a week before kick-off on 3/8 thru 3/10 (unless we wait until the following weekend of 3/15 thru 3/17) and I'm still not sure where I'm going. Gonna need some feedback soon...

I'm still pretty flexible, I could probably swing a Monday off (instead of Friday) in order to do a handoff on Sunday (either 3/10 or 3/17).  8)

Just need to settle when and where...  ???

and with whom...  ???

and which bike to ride...  ;)

There will be nothing there but the age old question, which way should we go?

So, any reason the teams are set up like they are?

AZ, CA, NM being a team kinda means that we're stuck riding east/west again.  I'd like to keep the options more open to riding North or NW or NE as well, so that we down here in the very SW don't keep riding the same old stuff we see on a regular basis.

Sorry Heffay; just trying to put this on the proper thread.
Since we only have 1 SOHC rider in NM, and 2 in AZ so far, we can pretty much do what we want. ;)

the only thing going on around here when GZ will come thru is AZ bike week and I don't know about the rest of you guys, but I'm not that into drinking and riding with all the HD riders just to watch them all have burnout contests for the big dick prize.

Sooooo, what else to do?

and try not to schedule the wind again on my leg of the trip, ok scottly?

well, there's not much else in the way of bike gatherings here other than AZ bike week, and its all HD bar-hopping related.

the discussion has been bike gathering oriented, so unless we host something, there's not much else to do.

as far as timing, i dunno, but bike week was happening last year when I had him.

i can tell you one thing though, it would be nice if he were here before June and its 110 in the shade.

I have been thinking early May? You mentioned a possible date in TX of May 4-5?

I'm trying, but it's up to the Wind Goddess, Mooshie. ;D She earned the title the first year, and that was in late April. I recall the wind didn't stop here last year until about June. :(

It was pretty bad last year for us between Reserve NM and Show low AZ, we had to stop for a bit in Show Low to let it ease up.  Somehow it unzipped my clear map pouch on my tank bag, and I made an unbelievable catch as it was starting to fly away!

Last year, I was assaulted by 45+MPH cross-winds on hwy 72: two-lane highway, 65 MPH speed limit, and anything over 45 MPH felt like I was going to be blown off the road. When the semi-trucks coming the other way went past, the blast nearly peeled my helmet off! :o

Oh that wind was horrible.  I almost got blown off Interstate 5 right into on coming traffic....horrible. And it never stopped all the way into SLO. Though I still think your ride (Scott) may have taken the prize for 2012-I literally watched you ride sideways into Joshua Tree after we had already reached safety from Rosamond ;D.
I am, however, prepared for the wind as it seems to follow wherever I go!

Soooo, who has the books from last year?  I only got to see the first few entries and I'd like to read the rest.  I type 80-100wpm so I'd be willing to put it into text format while I read.

Or if the "real-thing" is preferred I can scan into a pdf

Or, whoever has it can do that and post to the forum!   ;D

Yeah, I was thinking about scanning the log book from 2012 (I've got that one right now) and posting a pdf of it. I think Jerry RxMan has the log from the first relay 2011 and I'm sure we convince him to do the same.
