gasket ready surfaces?
« on: January 19, 2013, 12:55:46 PM »
I just finished scraping off the old gaskets. I used a wire cup wheel, a razor blade, and a file to make it smooth and flatten. Did I go to far, am I just right? The surface is really smooth, should I scar the surface for the gasket to bite into? Should I use copper coat on both sides of my gaskets? I just don't want to take this apart any time soon just because of a stupid leak. Any information will help.

Try to find a flat plate to set that head on.  Any warping will show up as rocking.  Very minor is OK because the gasket can compensate.  Looks good to go.  Most don"t recommend sealant on a head gasket, some will argue.  I have never used any on 10 plus head jobs.
