Tires For '77 750F
« on: July 17, 2006, 01:23:48 PM »
Hello.

New to the site!  Great work everyone.
My dad is an original owner of a '77 750F SuperSport.  I took the bike over at age 16, rode it for 2 years, and put it away.
10 years later, we're ready to go (after a caliper rebuild and full tune up).

Need new rubber and I'm considering:
Dunlop GT501 and Avon SuperVenom

Any thoughts?  I've heard that the Avons are a little bit stickier.
Should I go 100/90 up front and 120/90 out back, or stick with a 110 on the back????????

Bike will be pushed fairly hard in corners.

Thanks in advance everyone!!!

I'm running the GT501's and can tell you they are a great tire compared to older style bias ply tires. The rear rim can handle a 120 tire which is what I have. Can't help you with the Avons...

I run hard through the turns and run a 120 rear, I prefer it over the 110. My 750F is used as a daily rider as well as weekend fun so I prefer a tire with a little more wear life. The Pirelli Route 66 tires are a good "all around" tire since they last a few thousand miles longer than the 501's and Avons and are still sticky enough for moderate to hard riding, I have yet to break the Pirelli's loose. Ive used the 501's and can recommend them if you are the peg scraping type. I didn't get more than 4-5 thousand miles out of the 501 rear before it needed replacing, 6-7 grand for the Pirelli's.
Give me..a frame to build a bike on, and my imagination will build upon that frame

thanks for the replies guys.
i will be scraping the pegs a bit.  i have a full race F3 that i'm about to race in WERA, so my skills are up to par.
i've decided to use the old girl for my daily commute as opposed to my 155hp FZR 1040 that guzzles gas.

i'm happy with a tire that will last 4-5K.  i'll sacrifice longevity for grip.  sounds like the 501's are a great allround tire.  just wish someone here had a set of avons to put their $.02 in.  competiton acc. told me that the avons had a little more grip, but then again it's hard to trust someone who works on commission as the avons are more expensive.
i can get the 501's wholesale, so unless i hear from an avon supporter by tomorrow afternoon.......501's it is.
i will try the 120 on back.

AVON GUYS/GIRLS!!!!!!  WHERE ARE YOU???
