 That's a Good Caliper!
Not too hard to mount ether.  You could use that with one of my Drilled & Thinned rotors, mounted to the stock hub.

Ok Thomas, you have my interest. Will it clear the spokes? Share a pic with me of the left hand Caliper please. And the Guzzi! Godffery, I'll think about the Disc, the Rand to Dollar exchange rate is so crazy at the moment that I have to choose my Purchases carefully.(and I am soon to be self employed  ;D)

Put the selectors and drum in last night and the crank in the top half. With the tensioner in place. Once I'm done with the bottom end I'm planning on getting the pistons coated with the good #$%*.

Thread back from the dead! Again.

Slow and steady wins the race they say. So after looking for a alternate caliper for the 400 I decided to stick with the stock one. I have a phenolic piston from Godffery's Garage and will be using a braided hose. After doing the same upgrade to my 550 I can say it's all you need to improve the braking.

I finally closed up my cases and installed my new piston rings. Valve lapping and Cylinder head next then.
So that's all new seals and primary and cam chains and some new rings.

Slow and steady indeed.

Looking good!

My 550's getting there slowly as well. Almost ready to fire it up after the rebuild. Problem with taking so long is that I had to clean the carbs all over again... and now the float bowl gaskets have swollen.  >:(

Just noticed something when I studied your photos more closely: I used probably a tenth the amount of sealant you have there when I joined my cases because I'm paranoid about the stuff breaking off and clogging up an oil passage. I suspect that's what happened to my parts bike... I bought it seized, and there's bits of some kind of red gasket material everywhere inside.

I'm no expert and I don't want to cause unnecessary pain, but I'd get a second opinion on that. Would be much cheaper to redo the sealant now than seizing the motor. But then maybe I'm just paranoid.

HI Charl.

Thanks for the concern. It's one of mine too. I learnt that on my 550 build. So the bead follows the outside edge of the cases pretty closely. So if it's glooping out it does it on the outside not the inside.
Paranoia made me split my 550 cases again to make sure of it. I checked the inside of the 400 as best as I could with a light from the sump and the conrod openings. It looked ok. ;)

OK. So in between life an the 550s I have managed to spend some more time with the 400.

I Did some valve lapping and installed the valves with the new seals. All new rubbers in the oil channel bits and jets. I even managed a quick mock up before mocking it down again.

And tonight I installed my cam and cam chain. Timing marks lined up with the top-O-the-head.

Once the engine is buttoned up its on to wheel truing and getting the frame ready to drop this engine in.....I know I've said this at least 10 times over the last 3 years...
