BIG OOOPS
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:55:30 PM »
:-[ So let me start off by saying I had no buisness taking anything apart. I have a 78 cb550k that I pulled the motor on so I could rebuild the bike. the engine has been sitting in the garage for about a month or so now and I just got the itch to start turning nuts and bolts so I pulled the plate off the top of the top end and set it to the side, no big deal. For what ever reason I saw 4 10m nuts that I felt just need to come off...... soooo I spun the nut to the top of the thread pick up the socket AND plink plink plunk.... right down the hole! So I lost a nut right down the opening next to the chain. Now the question is how do I get tit out!!?

Go to pep boys, ace, home depot, or wherever and buy a telescopic magnet, a nice powerful one, and go fishing ;)

Maybe it was also the wrong move but I flipped the engine over and shook the piss out of it for a sec or so and nothing came out... I drained all the oil when I pulled it. Man I sure hope the magnet idea works. No better way to spend a rainy Sunday than fishing right?

I'm kinda big but that doesn't exactly sound like a cake walk, shaking the engine upside down. Just how disassemble is that thing lol

When it fell it may have fallen straight in. Now that you rolled it over it could be anywhere. If you get it up onto some kind of stand you might drop the pan.
Let us know how it goes.

Alright so I made a pretty nice redneck hoist out of a saw horse and an old ski rope I have. I've dropped the pan and just my luck no nut... I guess I could roll it around a little more maybe it ll fall down into the pan area. any thoughts so far guys? I still plan on getting a magnet and poking it around in there I was just hoping I could drop the pan and see it laying there but no such luck. Worst case scenario where could this thing be?

Thanks a ton to all out there
