Airbox boots too short?
« on: March 13, 2013, 09:52:56 PM »
Trying to put the carbs back on my 76 550 tonight with the new airbox boots I purchased from Paul Gabor (http://www.classicmotorcyclesolution.com/1_7_Products.html). They seem to be exactly the same size as the old beat up ones but I can't get the damn things to line up with carbs for the life of me. Am I missing something? I took the manifolds off and cleaned those and I believe i have them on correctly, A on the left side, B on the right, if you're on the bike. The boot on the left sits more than flush but the middle two and the one on the right are far from it. The side boots are also angled correctly. The carbs are stock, so is the airbox.

I've tried wiggling the carb rack back a bit but that doesn't seem to do the trick... Anyone know what the problem is?
Thanks!

Give us a pic of the boots installed on the plenum and we can go from there...

Seems normal. Mine are about the same position, as long as they close...
Try to back of the left side a bit. If that doesn't help the right side, you might inspect the plenum's position. Loosen it a bit maybe.

I ended up being able to fenagle them on a little better. I think they're good now. Everything's back on the bike now instead of all over my garage. Only minor casualty was my buddy breaking an exhaust stud as he was tightening a nut on the exhaust flange.  :'(
Supposed to be 74(!) degrees (F) here today so I'm taking the bike out for a ride with all the winter improvements. Gonna be a #$%* to sit through a day at the office though...
