It's great to have help. :) In real life and on this forum! I am the driving force behind getting our bikes finished. LOL My honey tends to hit a point and just stare at it, that's when I get bossy. ;) Between the two of us we have a huge waiting list of bikes to be worked on so it's steady that's for sure!

Thanks Stev-o! At the moment I don' t think I need anything else but she keeps throwing curves at me so anything could pop up! LOL I'll let you know if I find something else missing. :)

Still waiting on my spokes. They were sent out but have yet to get picked up from the border by the shop. So decided to borrow an old 17 wheel and rim just to put the bike up so we can at least start figuring out where stuff is going (need to put the taillight on, the headlight, gauges, figure out what bars I'm using etc.) That way I won't be so frustrated with all this waiting. Long as I'm moving forward I'm good. :)

Got bored this morning waiting for our wicked winter storm to pass, so I assembled my tank lid! Ha!

Hopefully assemble the petcock today too.. Really wish my spokes would come in this century but no chance of that till late next week maybe!

Thanks. :) For some reason the pictures don't show it's actual colour... It's closer to an emerald green or john deere tractor  green... lol

Petcock is in!

If we can drive by Sunday will be putting the spokes on the front, mounting the tire and using an old 17 rim and tire to mock up the bike so we can work on it!

Yes Stev-o, I believe I'd be considered obsessive, or maybe a fanatic... I have wolf tattoos, necklaces, a ring, bedding, pictures, figurines, towels etc.  ;D

Thanks 70cb750. It's coming along...

So Saturday my honey showed up with a surprise, with my front tire completed!

Of course this started a frenzy... put together the front fender...

Put the forks on..

Put them together!

Put the front tire on! Omg it's lovely...

Put the borrowed rear 17 on (sorta on, it's just sitting there so we can work on it)

Tried these bars out, they are way to high up and put the rear fender on

Set the tail light on and it's aimed up way too high

That's a bit better, bent the rear fender to make it work

Tried out these bars and decided they worked best for me

That was Saturdays work. :) Sunday still to come

And we went at it again today!

We started with me stripping paint off the braket and frame for a ground...

Put it all back together

Put the new clutch cable on the engine and the cover on

Put the brake switch in, and got everything ready that we could for the break parts

We headed to the shop and started to work on mounting the tail light. Universal sport tail light my ass! We had to redrill the holes in the unit, cut out a piece in the gasket, find bolts that were actually long enough etc... what a PITA.

This was hilarious! I had to take the entire unit apart the remove the protective plastic that wasn't removed before they put the unit together. Whatever happened to quality control?

Almost there with the light

And our own little PITA is finally done!

We also cut the break lever at the shop, then double checked the length at home. I do not have feet that are 2 feet long. Couldn't believe how long the lever was. LOL We will weld it, prime and paint it later

Got the kicker on...

We got the tank on but not without some head scratching .. We had reversed the rubber mounts between the battery box and the oil pan. Until we figured that out it was just a mess. LOL Then trying to tighten the nuts on the oil lines was messy too. This took us a good hour or more, but it's done!

This is where she sits now...

The tank still isn't actually dry. The paint gooed up and rubbed off all over the not finished seat. Called my Dad for some advice. Guess when I got the paint made they left a few things out. It won't dry. We have to get new paint, strip and paint it again. Not impressed. I'm going to get my paint from somewhere else, as the shop I got it from kept telling me to just wait and turn up the heat. How long do you wait? It's been a month. UGH. Oh well repaint is what we are stuck doing!

That's it for today. We'll see what happens tomorrow!

Thanks guys. :) I wouldn't wish those oil lines on my worst enemy! LOL

Paint update: We went to Auto Home Paints today. Brought my rear rim with since it's still naked. They are keeping it overnight to make a can of paint that matches. Enamel Acrylic One step. I like the fact that I don't have to sit outside with paint chips trying to match the colours myself.. :) It's very hard to match shades when your shade colour blind!  I'll have the paint by tomorrow afternoon. So just gotta see if we can strip easily using brake cleaner or if it's back to the gasket paint remover stuff. Guess what I'm doing this week?  :P

These are some photos of the crappiness of the paint. It doesn't show how badly every little thing has stuck to it. I double checked and we had painted the tank on March 30th. As of today it's still gooey. So that's what, 23 24 days?

Tank was touching the seat pan for a very limited time when it left this mark...

Lid bottom touched slightly for a minute, fixed it right away but damage was already done

This is from installing the lock

This is from sitting on it to check positon of legs, one moment and it smeared it and left gunk on my jeans

You can also see how all the fuzzy's are sticking. Entire tank is actually covered in that. These marks are all from this past Saturday. :( Anyways should have pictures of a tank that doesn't do this by the weekend!

I hate to say it but you may have to strip your bodywork and start again.  :o Looks like your paint didn't set up right like the others said.

Picked up the new paint today

For clarification: When I called the shop where I got the orginal paint from, about a week and a half after painting, about it not drying the person that mixed it told me he didn't put hardner in it. I just didn't realize that meant this stuff was going to stay gooey. I followed his instructions to put a blow dryer to it and turn the heat up in the house. It stayed gooey. So lesson learned, no hardner means gooey paint.

I don't really have a choice but to strip and repaint. Can't leave it like this! Also not getting my panties in a bunch over this cause it's not worth it. Place where I bought orginal paint from is an old workplace. I know all these guys and they are freinds. One can of crappy paint is not worth busting their balls over. Also they have a policy that any mixed paint they are not responsible for mishaps.  So only recourse it buy new paint elsewhere.

Sorry if I sound grumpy, I am. LOL Not sleeping good and repainting the tank didn't help my crankiness. Hopefully tomorrow I feel less like growling at everyone.

Thanks Gary. Somedays it's hard to see past all the crap. :)

BF and I worked on wiring tonight. I read schematics and held wires, he did the rest.. Only wiring left is the headlight, tail light, new Dyna S, new battery wire and finish up the led lights. After that wrap it all and we are done the electric work!

LED resistors are in

Ground wires are ready to be hooked up for LED

Everything lose but mostly finished

Can't sleep, yet again, so I decided to be productive while waiting for either shut eye or work to come along...

Figured out I can still use my orignal idea for mounting my igniton. And it's already built! I just have to add a wee bit to it and modify a bend. :)

It's gonna have to bent to be at about this angle to make room for the headlight below it... I'll also have to weld a small piece across the oringal holes to make wider holes to mount it there..

This side will have to have a piece welded on to fill it in and then sand, prime and paint! HA I love simplicity

So I'm gonna put my headlight bracket down here...

This is my little mock up to use as my design...

I'll have to shave about 2mm's off each outside edge so I don't rub up against the forks and I marked the middle where I need to drill a hole for the headlight

I discovered it's a lot easier in theory to try to outline holes below you and upside down.. LOL think I might make the bracket first then figure out the holes there.. LOL

I've discovered that gooey paint takes twice the amount of work to remove than any other kind!  >:( It took us two nights and a combination of paint remover, brake cleaner, green scrubby pads, wire brushes, wiping, sanding and sandblasting to remove it. Holy man!

My first attempt started at home, it was so thick I had to try to wipe it off in little sections...

This is one after all of the above mentioned...

And we primed it as of last night! Ready for the new paint. Crossing my fingers and hoping to god it works this time around!

That's really too bad about the paint but in the end it will just seem like a small hiccup in the overall process.

Good luck with round 2.

Got everything together today for the rear tire. Just waiting for our buddy to have time to spoke it now. :)

Then we started on making the brackets... we have the pieces cut out for the headlight...

and the pieces cut out for the ignition bracket, we will finish both up tomorrow...

Started painting the tank! We decided to just do the outdoor booth as it was simpler and we didn't notice any difference between indoors and out last time...

Success! Turned out beautifully and it's already almost completely dry. Should be ready to go by tomorrow...

I'm so impressed with this paint. You can't tell that it's not the same paint at all. Thank you Auto Home Paints!!!

We also worked on more wiring today. Have very little left now. Have to wire in the ground for the led's, wire the headlight and taillight, finish the positive from solenoid to battery, wire in the heat demons and the dyna and we are done! Was a really productive and good day!  ;D
