Godffery,  Thanks for the info, he's got a great site and have been able to use some of his GL1000 front shock info on my front end conversion. I had forgotten about his Oil stuff.  I dropped him a note to get his thoughts on the filter issue.  Thanks again.

Anyone out there big on AN fittings,  I don't want to be spending my money for something I don't need or cant send back when the shipping is so high these days.  I love Speedflow AN fittings but the shipping from Australia or Britton is expensive.

I received my rearset brackets from Devon at Cognito Moto.  They are super Heavy Duty.  Workmanship is very good.  FYI Note about 77/78 fitment.  I found the passenger peg triangle impedes the brackets ability to be cinched down.  I planed on cutting them off but didn't want to until I knew these would work.  I also bought the two spline levers, the shifter one works fine, the one for the brake was too large, which he now is aware of, he was great about taking it back.  The 77/78 brake spline is the same size as the kick starter spline.  It appears to be around 15-16 mm I will try to get a spline count for future reference.  If anyone knows of a spline that fits the 77/78 brake arm give me holler please.  I'm about to head down now to cut the triangles off and I will post some pictures later.

They have universal components and list arms, levers, actuators for CBs. Located I believe in GA. Used them for my shifter arm.

Thanks calj737 for reminding me.  I have seen it in the past.  They don't have anything out right for the black sheep's of the CB750 class, 1977-78.  As well none of the parts have any measurements as to what size/splines ect. are.  I did however send them my information to date to see what they know and/or can help me with this.  Here are some pictures I took today trying to finish up the rear sets fitment.  FYI for others I already had my rear sets and only bought Devons brackets.  As it turns out the hole on the bracket is larger than the bolts for my pegs.  I found an old engine dowel, cut it in half and though not perfect took up much of the space and think it will work.   The

More Pics. Last shot, maybe I should just dispense with the new arms, just use the peg and shorten the stock pedal?  It would work? Don't think it would look good though.

Another question.  Anyone know of a longer swing arm bolt?  .5 - 1"  I'm not thrilled with the stock one after mounting the brackets!

Looking at your picture of the left side pivot bolt, I'd agree, too short. I'm unaware of a stock bolt that is longer. You could replace it with a new piece of SS, have the ends threaded, nut you would probablyw ant to switch to roller bearings in the swing arm to exclude the need for grease fittings. (I'm undertaking this exact effort on my 500 build).

The indexing arm on the left side looks awkward too. I see it's far back on the underside to avoid the toe peg conflict, but if you rotatedt he shifter thumb "forward" you would create more clearance to the shifter rod. Flipping the shift arm on the splines might provide the clearance to eliminate the spacer on the rear set toe peg too.

Re: dowel to take up the bolt diameter, if you got hat route, if weld that into the bracket for rigidity.

If all of these comments are pointless because you're simply "mocking up" pardon me for speculating on things you already realize.

Its dialog that makes things happen. Re: swing arm bolt, if Im reading it right you probably have a zerk fitting in the end of your swing arm bolt.  The 78 had no such beast, its in the swing arm instead, which if I remember what I read in the "Hondamans Book" was a step back as there are no slots for the grease to migrate to the ends.  Bearings sound like a good idea, maybe later, I'm at the point where my budget is thin and still have some big items to pay for.  So if it isn't broke I'm not fixing it until later.

Re: Indexing arm, yes your right about it being a little awkward.  What I was trying to do was get the toe shifter low enough to be comfortable, without modifying the rod.  I think there was a clearance issue with the polished allen head bolts.  So to get that arm straight up and down I think I will just shorten it.  I have taps and dies but only hand tools to drill the hole.  I think I can get it close enough then the whole thing will look better. 

Yes I am in my finale mock up stage and it was a good idea to trial fit all items together as I have saved considerable dollars and time by screwing something up I could have learned on paper.  i.e. The new oil tank is a pain esp. the AN fitting situation and the oil cooler plumbing to a lessor degree.  But that's why we do this things as there is always something new to learn or a problem to solve.

For the 77/78 guys. I heard back from the folks at www.fastfromthepast.com.

The only brake arm we have that will fit the 77/78 model years is 01-0067
Sorry you had the problem. The 77/78s are a bit of an oddball because the models sold in Europe were different frames and engines than those sold in North America. Tarozzi makes a kit for the 77/78 models but it only fits the European models.

Tsunami - I'm not sure I explained the shifter part clearly... And again, it may not matter based upon your plans, butt his is a picture of how I was suggesting you orient it. Notice on the rear set, by rotating the "thumb" further underneath, you should create more space fort he "toe peg". You can also perhaps invert your shifter arm on the motor.

As long as the shifter arm is between "6 o'clock and 1 o'clock" when inverted, it should still operate in the correct shift pattern.

Don't know if any of this helps you resolve the spacing conflicts, but thought I'd offer. I also switched to button head bolts in my shifter/rears sets to improve clearances.

That was for mock-up, Jeff.  ;) I ordered a proper shift arm from fastfromthepast once I determined size and offset needed.

I hesitated to show this picture for that very reason, but it does show the orientation possible to clear frame and bolt obstructions. I have confidence that Tsnuami will produce a better end product than my mock-up!

I must confess- it's part brake arm and part shifter knuckle. Actually modified it thinking I was going to use it. Even PC'ed the darn thing. Once it was on, couldn't believe how bad it looked and that I had spent the time.

Ran inside and ordered a proper one. Luckily, no one was standing near the door when I burst through!

I agree with you Jeff, good idea.  Have to start somewhere, I was about the cut up my brake arm for the spline and bracket for the rear brake switch and have someone weld on the brake rod tab I was about to make with stone age tools, LOL.  Then I got the message for blast from the past about the other brake arm that will work but has to tab for the brake switch spring but I can figure that out and the part and its a finished piece worth paying for.  Had I been building a brat bike I would do mine.  Later guys

Hey, that's what is all about as far as I'm concerned!  No worries.  I will be cutting down my shifter rod so I can index the arm vertical like yours.  I just had to see how it might look like without having to mess with the machine work.  I have some work that pays so am off the bike for a couple of days.  Rock on!

Well first my apology's to Fast from the Past, it was my error in missing a drop down box where one could ship under a pound for less, mine was about $5.50 First Class USPS.

Here are some picks of the left side rear set. I cut off about 1 1/2" of the rod, before doing so I used the part I was to cut off as a drill guide so the hole would be straight rather than cut then drill.  Worked out ok, taped it 1/4 x 28 and Wa La done! I Think I will remove another inch or so but will wait until the brake arm come's in and do them both together.

Update, seems to be a surge in mortgages in California.  Has kept me busy for a week or so.  Finally worked out all the bugs with the rear sets and can say all fabrication for same is complete.  Had to do a lot of shortening on the rods and re tapping.  Also numerous resetting of the index's so all the connections (I think) look good now. 

Shades of things to come

Next in line will be making a mount area for the oil cooler and figuring which AN fittings to use and measure for Braided oil lines.  When time allows I will fab up a bracket to hold up the rear end of the exhaust.

When That's done Ill continue work on the oil tank and its lines. Then begin to configure where the electrical accessories will go, mount the coil, and begin to hook up the complete electrical system.  In that process I will remove any excess wires I will not be using then start checking to see if it all works, not including starting the engine.

And the beat go's on..... Miles to go yet....... Keeping on trucking....... I wish they would leave that light on at the end of the tunnel.

The rear set linkages look much better (for foot clearances and operation).  Are you going to run the bike without the kickstarter lever?

Probably not around town, I mean look at the size of that battery?  I'm thinking of putting a propeller on this sucker and make it fly.  Just kidding it is after all a motorcycle and should have a kick starter. I remember back about 1971, I had a 350 chopper.  I was a service manager in a Honda shop in Mpls.  One of my mechanics and I were made honorary members of a local bike gang, just a bunch of young guys, wanna be's.  Most drove Harleys.  We would meet up on a Sunday morning for a ride at a local coffee shop.  Well when it was time to take off they would all go outside and try to kick start their bikes while Mike and I had another cup of coffee.  We'd then join them and always road up front so that the misc. bits and pieces that fell off them wouldn't hit us or nick up our bikes!  Really, they were good times.  ;D
