The gas 176 would make me nervous, I would never make that on full tank, did you take some precautions or is your bike that good on mpg?

Thanks. I know the route, so had called ahead to make sure Fields Station had gas. We started to get a pretty good head wind between Fernley and Winnemuca. I knew we were going to turn into the teeth of it turning onto NV140, so I decided to buy a small gas can in Winnemuca as a precaution. Turns out I didn't need it, but it will come in handy for the lawn mower.

Hello All,
Sorry for my tardiness. It's a problem I have always had

For my leg of the relay, I used a GoPro to capture some video but for most of the trip I captured a still picture every 2 seconds. There are a couple holes in the trip due to GoPro battery life suckage, but for the most part, it is all there. The video is kind of long at nearly 10 minutes so you might want to grab a hot/cold beverage of your choosing and enjoy.

That was an awesome video MortorFist. I really need to get a Go Pro for my rides.

Well my post isn't quite as exciting as MotorFist or Proto but here we go. First off I made it the whole way on the 650

no breakdowns or issues to report (except maybe a leaking fork seal

). I left Lehi Utah at 9:40 and headed towards Logan Utah. The ride up was really nice about 75 degrees the whole way (I would miss that later in the day). I arrived a few minutes before noon at the White Owl to find a familiar face and Yellow 750F waiting for me. Proto and I shot the sh!t for a bit waiting for EnvinoVeritas. We heard Envino coming before he got there (he has straight pipes), he pulled in on his Brat/Cafe with his wife on the back. Once we were all together we had some lunch and talked for a bit. Interestingly Envinos wife and I grew up in the same town in Utah, Springville I also went to school with her younger sister, and Proto and Envino had a mutual buddy that they knew as well. So it is a pretty small world out there. We made the hand off and I love how Envino put it we had to much close male contact handing off GZ and taking the handshake Pics. Had to put GZ in my pack (at least he was cooler as I had ice water in my hydration pack), my wifes van broke down so she took my car earlier that morning to work, all my bungee cords were in the trunk of my car. So he was a bit bummed about not being able to see the road south.

Proto and I headed out south through Logan Canyon and on to south bound on I-15 but not until I got us a little bit lost

. Heading back down was really nice through the canyon pretty drive nice temperature. But once we hit Brigham City we hit the wall of 100+ temperatures too. Heading south on 15 wasn't too bad but we did get stuck in the car pool lane behind a Chevy Astro that would not go more than 5 over so it felt pretty slow compared to my trip up when I was 10-15 over the whole way (yes I speed all the time). That probably worked out the best for Proto though as his speedo cable was shot. Once in to Salt Lake City we pulled off to I-80 east bound and exited for gas, Gatorade and the hand off.

After the hand off Proto continued east and I went south heading for home. It was great meeting some new folks and a friend from last year. I am not going to win any awards for the longest ride or anything but if we have a most improved award I might be in the hunt!

The small world thing is what makes the relay so awesome; I've had a few of those experiences so far.

Figured out how to cut and paste this from the other thread!

Rolled into Craig with GZ3 last night (6/30).

Left here Friday and headed north into WY and west on I-80. My speedometer cable broke on me outside of Rock Springs. I now had to figure my fillups based on map mileage and speed by RPMs. For insurance, I bought a small gas can!

Exited I-80 west of Green River and headed north via Hwy 30 (89 in UT). Passed through some beautiful country. At one point the highway cruised along the shoreline of a huge lake (Bear Lake). Beaches were packed with people and there were lots of distractions (think of the scene at the end of the "Wild Hogs" movie!). Regretably, the road angled away from the lake but it did climb up and over the mountain and into the big city of Logan, UT. Lots of twisties that 40 mile stretch!

I was to meet up with ID rider envino veritas and UT rider curemode the next day for lunch at the White Owl bar and grill. I found the place and then started checking motels for a room. Nothing available anywhere in Logan due to a major bicycle race taking place that weekend. Headed down the road 20 miles to Brigham city and got a great room at the first place I checked. Grabbed a fast food meal retired for the night.

Headed back to Logan late the next morning and cruised around checking out the area. Found a neat little zoo and hung out there for a bit. Finally time to wait for the riders at the White Owl. Curemode(Martin) was the first to arrive. While we were chatting out front, we heard the unmistakable sound of an uncorked CB 750! It was envino and his wife (Boyd and Molly) aboard his cafed bike. After introductions, we went up to the roof deck of the bar and partook of a great meal and a cool beverage. After a nice visit, we went back out front for the official hand off of GZ3 from Boyd to Martin, duly documented by Molly.

Martin and I said our goodbyes to the great couple from ID and pointed our bikes south to the inferno known as Salt Lake city. We pulled off at a gas station near the I-80/I-15 junction and gassed up the bikes and guzzled down some gatorades (remember the "Wild Hogs" scene when they finally push there bikes up to the cafe in Madrid!). Salt Lake is experiencing record breaking hot temps right now.

We did the official hand off of GZ here as I was heading east on 80 while Martin was to continue south on 15. Martin documented the exchange using his cell phone and long arms! He will post that photo.

We said our goodbyes and I headed east to US 40 and followed that all the way to Craig. Saw a road-killed moose just north of Heber city, which is not something you see everyday! Played cat and mouse with rain squalls the last couple of hours of the trip, but never actually got rained on other than a few drops. It was so hot that I was hoping for rain! These showers were accompanied by some really high crosswinds. I gave up on trying to keep GZ's new hat on when we did the last few photo stops.

I rolled into Craig around 9 p.m. It was another great ride, which was approximately 750 miles.

LOL, Proto (that means "laugh out loud")... for as gifted as you are at cranking the throttle until I can barely keep up, I'm glad you're getting a dose of your own medicine!! keep up, now, will ya?! Start computer ---> copy/paste, all ---> most basic of tasks... I'm just razzin' ya!

I had to retire my camera set-up this year, but I will get another for next year. Mine's been thru several OBR videos, a GZ tour, and several high speed runs on the zx7r. I can't knock Canon, since they replaced my lens at no charge halfway through. I wish I'd waited another 6 months to a year, then GoPros hit the market.

It is too hot here to ride... thanks for keepin' the dream alive.

Well I knew "control C" would copy everything but "control P" would not paste it! Got a few printed copies of my write up before I finally did the on line search for "how to copy and paste?". Never would have figured "control V" to paste it....Where the heck did come up with V??

Go easy on me!! When I started work, we were using manual typewriters. The college kids were all carrying funny little cards with holes punched in them to their computer classes. I was brought kicking and screaming into the computer age...

Pulled out of here at 0630 hrs and headed east for the last leg of my 2013 relay ride. Temps were in the low 50's. I was headed to Cameron pass on Highway 14 east of Walden, CO. I was to meet oldbob and hand off the pimpster.

By the time I passed through Steamboat Springs, I was thoroughly chilled and had to stop and put the liner in my mesh jacket. I was then able to proceed in comfort on in to Walden, where I stopped in the moose cafe for a great breakfast burrito. While there, a Harley rider came in asked about my ride. Turns out he has a CB750A at home. We talked Harleys/Hondas until I had to head up the mountain.

I found the meet location and waited for oldbob. While there, two fishermen hiked up from the lake trail. One asked me the year of my bike. I told him and he replied that he used to have a 750K4 back in the day and used to commute regularly from SLC to Evanston on it.

While talking with him, old bob arrives on his beautiful Suzuki GS750. GZ3 had been perched on the edge of my fairing and quickly dived in to the inner bowels of the fairing and hid once he realized he was being transferred to a non-SOHC4. I managed to get my hand on the tip of his tail and drag him out. I convinced him that it would be a short ride and there would be a pack of SOHC4's waiting for him on the other side. He then allowed himself to be unceremoniously crammed into oldbobs backpack for the next leg of his adventure.

I had company coming in from out of town so I could not ride Hwy 14 through Poudre canyon like I had planned. I said goodbye to oldbob and headed back towards Craig.

There was road construction going on on Rabbit Ears pass and traffic was being stopped momentarily by a flagger. As I approached, I saw there was an old bike stopped directly in front of me. I pulled up beside the guy and saw he was on an old bmw. He said it was a '77. He then asked about mine and went on to say that he too used to have a CB750! Amazing how pretty much the only people I talked to today on the ride had connections to these old bikes!

I made it on in to Craig without incident.

I got on the road at 06:40 to 1) beat the morning traffic in Boulder (CO) and 2) avoid the afternoon rain. The ride was about 300 miles, about 250 more than I can stand on my CB400F, hence the Water Buffalo.

I made my way through Boulder to Lyons (CO), and then headed north on 287 to Fort Collins (CO) where I picked up CO14. CO14, at least the east half, is a fun ride: sweepers with long sight-distances. The traffic was sparse and the sky was clear. I met Proto at 09:55 (our target was 10:00). He handed off GZ and then explained a few things. 25 minutes later we shook hands and went our separate directions, Proto to the west and me back east. Rather than again going through Boulder and Boulder Canyon, I chose the Saint Vrain Canyon (CO7) and the Peak-to-Peak Highway (CO72). A few quick passes and the Water Buffalo stopped smoking, almost. Saint Vrain Canyon has recently been overlaid. It was a wonderful ride. Other than a few miles of “tar snakes”, CO14 was very good, too.

I would sing the GT750’s praises, but this is not the place.

I am going to be a team player on this one. I will pack up GZ on the 400, and ride to the parking lot where I met up with Proto, and then ride back. Probably not tomorrow, but most likely Sunday or Monday. A photo will follow.

I rode 288 miles today, 50+ in rain. GZ has been back to the parking lot where he met my Water Buffalo, and has returned, all on an SOHC4.

This was the first rain the 400 has seen since I restored it.
