Bottom end build questions, What to replace?
« on: April 03, 2013, 06:43:01 AM »
I discovered a bent rod in my 77 750k during assembly. 836 weisco 10.25:1 cr. built head w/ port, cam.
Bike is a street bike, might see strip once a year.
Will be replacing with rods(undecided on which brand), getting the crank balanced(possibly lightened). Also throwing the idea around of getting the tranny undercut, however I'm not sure how involved removal and reassembly is.  While the cases are split what else should I be replacing?

So far...
crank and rod bearings
oil seals - kit?
primary chains - oem
tensioner - oem
clutch was fine for stock setup, will I need extra plates? hd springs?

anything else i'm missing?
Should I leave the crank alone? It is a street bike, are these often off balance much?
Like the price of the cycle-x rods, i know they are on the porky side, anyone have any good/bad to say about them?

You need to go shopping with Kenny. His rods would be more than enough, his new cam tensioner good idea. Also sells oil seal kit and nice clutch kit, all reasonably priced. For $195.00 hell yes on undercut gears, his price the best! Kenny, send me my $20.00  ;)Seriously, good stuff, good luck, Bill

I have the cycle x rods in my 836, they are a quality piece good fit and finish.  No problems what so ever.  They use them in there bigger motors to so they use what they sell.  I also have an undercut tranny and it stopped my jumping out of gear problem.  I would also recommend a heavy duty cam chain in there with the cam chain tensioner.  I have never had a problem with any of Kens stuff and shop there often.
