Is it Bad Form to send a nastygram to someone who outbid you in the final few seconds?

I REALLY needed a part and was outbid in the last 2 seconds.

I want to shoot the guy in the face with a large-caliber handgun, but maybe sending a mean message over the internet would be good enough.

Thoughts?

isn't that what an auction is for, the highest bidder wins. you might be pissed off but that's life get over it.

Ultimately, what it comes down to is that he bid MORE than you, not AFTER you. It's the highest bid that wins, not the latest.

That WAS as high as I was willing to go, mostly because I have no money. He obviously had more money to blow, so he couldn't give a #$%* about spending more, therefore #$%*ing me over because I'm not the idle rich.

I checked the auctions he's won lately. A LOT of 400F parts. He KNEW what he was buying since it was an obscure part.

THAT pisses me off.

So what difference does it make then if he bid in the last two seconds of the acution or the first two seconds? He had more money to spend on the item than you did. End of story. The auction isn't over until it's over. Sending him a nasty email after the fact will only make you a sore loser. If anything, I'd send him a congrats!

ebay ettiquette is an oxymoron...
and if this guy is really a #$%*er and deseerves the nasty gram then he would probably get off on it- knowing he got his part and pissed someone off. dont give him the satisfaction. let karma fight your battles and dont let evilBay get you down. you missed out on that part, butyou have a lot of parts already, and a soul, which you can;t buy on ebay.

On the good side for you, I've seen the same thing come up again at less cost to the next guy.

I'd think E bay would frown on that, and, If you send him the note, he's gonna remember who you are and outbid you every time he sees you.
I had a similar situation two years ago bidding on an unobtainum right hand side fork ear for my 750.
The guy hoarded the things and said in an e mail he'd sell me one for 250.00. My reaction was to tell him to drop dead, but I found a better way. EVERY time after that, when a right fork ear (NOS) came up, I put in a proxy bid for 171.50. I was prepared to pay that amount. My nemisis kept winning
them for a while too, but pretty soon he got tired of paying 170.00+ ea. for NOS right side fork covers. I finally won mine for 52.00. Persevere, be patient, and be prepared to step up to the plate come bid
time if you really want/ need something. Just a friendly suggestion

The way to go is to place the highest bid,...especially if you need the part, sorry, it's your own fault,...that's all.

Ebay can be a right pain - that's just the way it's set up. All you can do is bid your highest and bid late and then forget about it. I wouldn't take your frustration out on the winner - he's only playing the game too - try the dog ( no, not really - it's not his fault either!). Seriously though, that part will come to you at the right price if you're patient. It's always worth looking closer to home in breakers, etc and getting to know people in the bike clubs. Guys like the ones here who are into the bikes and just want to see them running and will help. What part were you after? Anyone here got one they don't need?

this wasn't me, but it very well could've been as i have a 400f and tend to bid within the last minute or so. it's a strategy, and a gamble and nothing new. sometimes it works well and i get the part without inflating the price too much by bidding early, on the other hand, if i don't bid enough i don't get a second chance to up it; it's happened both ways pleanty of times.

so in the future, if i outbid you for some 400 part at the last second, sorry. it might happen.

Someone posted somewhere that because it's eBay, another same or similar item will get listed up before too long. I think that is a good observation.

Groovy, no one gave you solid info on what to do next. Your next move is contact the seller and politely tell them that if the first bidder does not complete the transaction, you would be willing to buy it. People back out of deals all of the time so you have a shot at the part. You never know, the guy might have two of them and sell you one offline. Good Luck!

I have too say that the bid swiping is annoying as hell, It's one thing to be fairly outbid by another person.

My biggest beef with Ebayers is when you post an Item for auction lot's of people watch the item but never bid, then when the auction is over all hell brakes loose and you have a dozen people e-mailing you wanting to do a side deal outside of Ebay and usually end up feeling insulted at their cheap ass lowball offer's.

I recently posted a old car for auction twice since June and thats what happened both time's. Finally got

and told a guy to go .... himself, after he kept E-mailing me, If he wanted it he had 2 opportunities to bid. Gave the car to a local guy for a really good deal.

Hate trying to sell stuff on Ebay cause that seem's to always happen

This is the achilles heel of the entire engine. It's the only part that wears and causes the engine to rattle if the camchain isn't tensioned constantly. It's a discontinued part and I am trying to hoard as many as I can get so my bike can run for the next hundred years if I want. It's a part that 99% of 350/400 owners would have no clue about.

Whoever bid on it KNEW what he was doing. I guess that's what pissed me off. By all rights, it SHOULD have been a part that no one identified and should have been passed over as a random engine bit, allowing ME to get it.

I was selling cars for people on ebay and the bidders on ebay suck so bad I gave it up. Funny thing is parts I have had no problem with. I would email the guy and see if that deal falls through.

GG you say you are Hoading these tiny bits....then critisize someone whom outbids you.
Now wait a minute, you ALREADY have the tiny bit.
Hmmmm....sounds like greedy to me.

If a bidder sent me a nasty email after I outbid him I would report him to ebay.
Simple as that.

If someone wants cheaper parts all they have to do is read my
listings and contact my website. BUT some people can't figure out
how to do so because of restrictions ebay places on what sellers can
put on listings.

I have only had 2 of 500+ ebay items "fall though".
I never reply to emails from NON-bidders, BECAUSE
every time when I relisted the parts for non-bidders, the morons never bid!!

and I got stuck with 2 times cost of listings.
ie, if you wanted it you should have bid higher,
save the excuses for your Mama.
