Do you have anymore pics between the stages of making the plug and then making the mold. I am doing the same thing right now and I have my plug nearly complete. What did you finish yours with to make so smooth, and what was your method from making the mold to leave such a nice inside finish? Thanks

Thanks for the advice on the finish coats of the mold plug.
I understand that I will need to apply gel coat to the mold before I lay in some glass, I was just curious as to how you got the shiny, smooth surface inside the mold as shown in your picture. I would like to be able to get a semi smooth surface inside the mold before I lay in some gel coat.
Hopefully I will update my build this weekend, and thanks for the interest in it. To tell you the truth, I was building just a one off seat with lots o filler, but the beaty of your seat results made me change my mind and to do it right.

Any upholstery updates?

That really is quite impressive. Nice job. How high does the back of the seat hump rise in relation to the top of the tank?

While your first draft was excellent, especially because it's home built, it wasn't shaped quite right, for my tastes. Far better than I could do, though.

However, version 2 looks just about perfect. And you use the stock hinges, correct, so you still use the key to open it? You making any more?

The stock hinges fit perfectly but the factory lock sticks out from the frame so far that the seat would have to be considerable wider to clear it. I am going to make a pin that will fit through a hole in the factory lock mount and will be secured with a pin clip. Most of the factory lock mount will then be trimmed leaving a small low profile bracket.

I was planning on making another seat or two before selling the mold. Interested?

I'm not interested in buying the mold, but might be interested in a seat depending on cost. When you have an idea what it'll cost, shoot me a PM or something.

absolutely killer idea. I love the industrial look. I'm looking into building a headlight bracket myself. I'm fighting hard not to steal your idea.

your original "ears" on your old forks...i'm looking for something like that so i can get rid of those obtuse turn signals on the front. where'd you find those and/or would you consider selling the one's you're no longer using? heck, while i'm at it, what about the forks? never hurts to ask

I've just really noticed how inadequate the front fork assembly is.

On my touring 550 with the Wind Jammer the front forks wallow like a PIG over bumps when going slow... I'm sure there are swing arm issues as well.. but something like your conversion is going to be in my future...

While the engine is getting the full treatment, the painter has possession of all my bodywork, and I’m sp stoked with the direction it’s heading.

No pictures to show yet, but of the several themes that we discussed, he agreed that “Project CB550i Interceptor” was the most interesting. I’m not a great color guy especially when it comes to multi color schemes, but you know you’ve got the right guy when he can tweak a concept and balance the proportions to perfection right before your eyes.
