Half Working Electronics.
« on: April 10, 2013, 07:56:20 PM »
Howdy,

I was attempting to get my electronics system on my bike in check to hopefully attempt to get it up and running when this fuel line order comes in by friday.

Now I was cleaning parts on the bike I believe it was the starter solenoid based on http://oldmanhonda.com/MC/wiring500.html

Got a little spark when I was putting it back together! (note always disconnect the battery ::))

Now when the key is in the first position [Why have off-red-black?]
I can get everything except the back tail light / starter for the motor to work.

So this means that I should be looking at the coils / sparks / condensers right?
As for the tail light, there is a spare green wire that is dangling around, does not look like it has a female attachment anywhere...... I'll start cleaning more parts when I get time.

Which direction should I head into about getting spark?

Thanks!
[TL:DR]
1. why have 2 on positions for the keys.
2. wont start / no brake lights.

EDIT : adding image! :D

The green is an extra ground. it isn't for anything unless you add stuff to the bike

Check your fuses first. Even if a quick glance they look decent, pull em and test em or atleast look them over good

The red is power from the main fuse, that when you turn the key is either diverted back to the fusebox in pos 1 and gives power to everything. Position two takes red power for only tail light(parking lamp stuff). It is a parking visibility feature that most ppl don't use. Custom wire guys get rid of it but that is a whole different thing altogether

I'm almost certain you blew a fuse that is why they are there, for oh sh!t moments when a screwdriver slips or something like that

I dont assume that there would be a fuse box type of deal like a car?
The fuse that is is a glass cylinder on the RED wire that goes to the battery looks fine... I don't see any other fuse. x0

You will have glass tube fuses, the old school stuff. No real fusebox so to speak but you will have either one main fuse or three fuses mounted on the battery box that will look the same. Pull the fuse and get a good look at it, give it a little shake to see if the filament is loose/busted. I check with an ohmeter bc I have been caught chasing my tail with a "good fuse"

Yeah I think this one only has one main fuse, was not able to find any other ones, It checks out, does not have burnt filament..
