Topic: can a CB500 Cam Chain Tensioner Slipper be repaired?

Hey.
So I decided to do a full top end job on this bike that was "done" because I didn't like how much blow by I started getting.  And there was a leak from one of the engine o-rings that was worsening.

Valve stem seals were shot.
Obvious which o-ring was bad when I got it apart.

Here's a pic of my cam chain slipper.  It has flattened in the middel and there's aging/cracking near the end. Hard to find a new one or a used one that isn't just as bad.

Anyone know of a process to at least keep the cracking from getting worse?  Maybe a bit of high temp silicone adhesive (or similar) that stays flexible but also stays in place?

It is oil-soaked now, so adding anything to it will not work: it will just come off and end up clogging the oil pump.

Thanks HondaMan.  That makes perfect sense.   So what to do?  There are wear items, there's a dearth of nos pieces remaining in the world, and there doesn't seem to be an aftermarket replacement being made anywhere.  So if w can't repair or purchase replacement.... What can be done?

Looks like Servince Honda doesn't have any. Couldn't find it on David Silver Spares either.

Thanks ironworker.  I spoke to DSS and they don't have it, nor so a whole passel of the usual Honda oem suppliers even though several of em list it with a price on their sites.

I was hoping to find one close by so I can get the engine buttoned up as opposed o paying a ton and waiting a long time for the piece from holland.

Gotta be a low mileage bike that was crashed and salvaged-stored where this part is in good enough shape to use again... Somehwere

No longer made by Honda. Hopefully you can find a good used one or bite the Netherland bullet. At least there is a picture of what a good one looks like.

On another note Bill/BentOn is parting a 500. Maybe his will be better.

I've bought quite a few hard to find pieces from CMSNL and have always been happy with their service. Shipping takes longer obviously but not unreasonably so.

Sorry for the late response.  I contacted DSS in the usa.  But I found one on eBay that was in far better shape than mine so in it went for $20.
