CB400f carb problem
« on: July 27, 2006, 03:18:48 PM »
the strap which links the 2 actuators has broken on one of my pair of carbs, It looks like stainless steel, how critical are these? does anyone know where I can get one or is it possible for it to be welded.

I have circled it in red on the picture.

That keeps the 2 bellcrank lift thingies (what would the right name be?) on the ball ends that lift them. They don't fall off easily anyway, so you could leave them off I think. I wouldn't; if one came off it would be unpleasant - just getting in there to snap the arm back on the ball wouldn't be a treat.
I would get some sheet brass and using aviation snips, drill, and files I would make 2 copies of the good one and install them. The two sides would match :)

i broke one too while rebuilding mine.  luckily, i had another set of carbs to rob one from, but my backup plan was to cut one out of some light metal--like a beer can or something.

all of the up-down is handled by the--i don't know the name--but the thing bodi was talking about with the ball joints so it's not going to mess up the sync or anything.

I had these on my old carbs, when I re-built a new set that I got on E-bay, they didi not have the straps, but seam to work ok without the straps.

Suck it and see is my approach:D

thanks for that, will keep looking for a used one before trying to make one from brass sheet.
