ss brake line cb650
« on: May 04, 2013, 02:01:37 PM »
i'm looking to get a stainless steel brake hose for 1980 cb 650. does anyone know if a later model cb750 hose would be interchangeable (perhaps '78)? if not, any suggestions where to look for one?

thanks

Check out Slingshot Cycles. Got a set from him for my CB500. He even gives a discount to forum members.

that's where i was hoping to get it from, but there is no cb650 listed. there's a '78 cb750, but i'm not sure if the fittings are the same, as the m/c is different i think.

He does custom lengths. Just get in touch with him and let him know what you are looking for. He may already know the lengths and fitting needed for that bike.

i'm still on the hunt for this brake line...slingshot didn't pan out. does anybody have a 1980 cb650 that runs a stainless steel hose? or know if another model uses the same hose?

I ordered the parts from Z1 for my 81 CB650 Custom. Just measure the lengths you need and place your order.

I ordered an SS cable from slingshot 2 weeks ago for my 1980 650c and Shawn was able to make it up for me no problem. I have superbike bars and he made a custom length. 65 bucks I think and definitely worth it.

i really wanted to get it from slingshot, but i waited for six weeks to hear back from him, and he said he didn't have a cb650 standard cable to use as a template. i asked whether pictures and measurements would suffice, but that was two weeks ago and i haven't had a response, and i'm getting a little impatient. i'll give him one more try today.

He would sometimes go a week without responding but when it actually came to making up the line it only took him a day. You could help him out my measuring the length of your cable, and take pics of your MC and the fitting on the cable. Thats what I did and Shawn had no problems, the cable fit perfectly.

Bump.

Has anyone had any contact with Slingshot-Cycles?  I'm looking to get a set for my 81 CB650, but the pricing for everything I'm finding is pretty steep.

I just got lines for my 750 from Venhill USA via Ebay.

The lines use screw on type banjos into AN type fittings crimped on the hose, so you give them the overall length and specify if you need straight or bent banjos and they send you the hose with the ends crimped on and you then screw in the banjos and take care of clocking. I paid $117 shipped for 3 lines (master to splitter and 2x splitter to calipers).

Everything installed easily and I was very happy with the communication with the seller to make sure I got what I needed.

Thanks for the info guys.  Bankerdanny, so when I go to ebay do I just purchase 3 units (master to spliter, spliter to 2 x calipers) from the vendor and they will contact me to determine the length, type, and color of connections I need?

I decided to use this kit from Revival Cycles. I was a little dubious about it but after using it and how easy it was to install/make I’d do it again on my next build.

You need to measure your original lines to get the length information from them and include the data with your order.

One more quick question.  I am placing my order for the brake lines and the seller is asking me if I need banjo faces even with each other or one rotated 45, 120, 180 in relation to the other.....  Will ordering the correct length brake lines and banjos even faced work fine, or do I really need to take these into consideration.

You do need to know this. Brake hoses don't twist well.

+1

One reason I like the Revival kit. You can really play with it and get your lines to route smoothly with no tension.

Posting for help to anyone googling:

I measured the length of my 1980 cb650 brake line hose, and it was 43" , or 109cm.

I might buy from Spiegler, and the order would look like this:
Caliper End - fitting type 002
Top end - type 530
Grommet at 54”, 2cm by 2cm
Price pending (they make me request an email :(

I might buy from Apex
Caliper End - type #3
Top end - type 9
$50
Good luck everyone, and good luck me.

Thanks for the info. I need to order stainless lines too, at some point, but had not gotten around to measuring yet.

My last 2 sets of SS lines came from Venhill USA. $100 for 3 lines shipped. Venhill uses screw on AN banjos, so you clock them at installation.

I am sad to say that Apex brake lines' fixtures do not match the threads of my 1980 cb650c. The only fittings offered are 10mm 1.0, which doesn't fit.

As far as I can tell, Spiegler is really the only option, and they still haven't replied to my quote request, so I can't actually buy it yet. :(
