Shorter cables?
« on: May 06, 2013, 03:52:35 PM »
Any source out there for slightly shorter cables for a 1975 750F0 I going with lower bars and thought I'd check here for any resources. Thanks for any help.

Hey,
Don't have source for them.
However, I just shortened my new ones recently.  If interested,
Measure cable travel.
Cut off end of cable and remove.
Find brass dowel of proper diameter.
Drill hole in dowel large enough for cable.
Cut down cable sheath to proper length.
Reinsert cable.
Measure and mark your desired travel.
Slide dowel on.  Cut off excess cable.
Braze cable to dowel from cut end.
File excess material off.
Also, you can reuse the chrome sheath cap.
Wala, shorter cables.

Hey thanks for the update. Looks like that's the route I'll heading. There's not a lot of room on my bike to loose a few inches of cable. Thanks for your help.

Motion Pro and most of the "cafe" vendors usually have them in supply. Dime city cycles, the like. it will be advertised as for clubmans, drag, supermoto, -2", something like that. See what you need them shorter by after being routed properly with no binding lock to lock and go shopping

One thing with the brazing is you gotta use the right rod for it not just what you have laying around. I believe silver solder is the stuff, I'm sure someone will correct me when/if wrong
