LED front running lights
« on: May 06, 2013, 04:28:38 PM »
I have been trying to figure out what to do for signals for a while now...either they are too big, too dim or just ugly...

I am fairly sure I am going to go with these:

http://www.rizoma.com/custom/indicator-lights/fr025/en

That being said...they are 2-wires....do any LED lights exist that are 3?

Or....if there a way to wire these to be on all the time in the front and then flash when signaling? I'm guessing yes, but is that OK to do with and LED?

thank you for any insight

LEDs use less power so that's OK for these old bikes, there will be a load issue so I believe the flasher relay won't work without modification.  Never heard of having them lit & then flash when needed, but it's not a bad idea.  Do a search on our site & you will find others who have done the LED mod & posted tips to make it work,  resistors & relays come to mind, but others will know.

THis guy seems to make it work...I don't know what he is talking about...but it seems to be possible

oops..here's the link:

and here is his wiring diagram

What is that box (relay I'm guessing) and where do I get them? Research begins now...

Yea he's using a small relay on the load (flasher) & the contact activates the light.

So to add on, the light is wired to the normally closed relay contact & the flasher signal will cause it to interrupt or blink.  You would need two relays, one for each side.
