New RH and LH controls for a 1976 CB550k
« on: May 09, 2013, 01:49:07 PM »
Does anyone know of a place to get new RH and LH controls for a 76 550?  I refurbed my old ones and am now having a helluva time trying to trouble shoot electrical problems that may be coming from the control switches.  I've not totally given up yet, but it may be a lot easier to open the wallet and get a new set.  I really don't want to put aftermarket controls on.  Thanks

there are some aftermarket, universal controls that are not identicle to the original CB550 part, but will give you the headlight switch, start button, kill switch, turn signals, horn, etc... so maybe if you cant find a direct replacement you could wire an aftermarket universal fit part to it, this is what i intend to do with mine... some aftermarket options even give you the option of a high/low/off switch for your headlights so you dont have to wire an on/off switch elsewhere

They are 7/8ths.  I am kinda hung up on using the original "style" controls.  Even though I am not doing a concours restoration, I like the look of the original controls and I've already cut my new bars to run all the wires internally.  I'm not giving up on my original controls since I took great pains to take them apart, clean, paint and re-install.  Unfortunately I have a problem with with one of the sides that is not allowing power through to my tail light and instrument lights.  Now that I've been messing with them I'm also having a problem with hi/lo continuity at the HL. Time to put it away and take it up tomorrow.

Duanob-thanks for the link to the right side control.  The pic looks the same, but the 76 550 right control has 6 wires out.  I'm not sure which one is missing.  I did look up the honda part number and going to do a little research tomorrow and see if I can't find a new set set.  Hate to drop another $250 into this bike, but at this point I'm already all in, why stop now....this is a hobby right  :)

I got my OEM right hand controll at bike bandit for my 76 550f.  Was under 100 bucks and plugged right in.

Thanks.  It's interesting that there seem to be OEM right hand controls, but I've not found an OEM left hand control.  Reminds me when I was searching for a used right side panel for a 76 550k.  Found lots of left sides, but no rights  :)

You are correct capecafe, the 1976 is a unique animal, I got lucky and found a good used one one ebay.

As far as the left hand control, I think the best you can hope for is a good used one from ebay.
