I know the feeling.  It took months before i was the first caller for a CB.  Countless times I called too late.
Best i can tell you is if you have a smartphone, let it work for you.
A craigslist apps which notify you of postings with your selection of "WORDS" to search by, can make a difference.

That's what I looked on but I didn't know it can notify you. Which app is that?

most all of them can be set up to notify you when a key word or words are used.
CB, CB750, 750K, CB750K, CB750K8, etc.

i used this one, but there are many others.

Its pretty easy and straightforward, try and work through it.
once the results come up from a search, save the search in the drop down menu.
also, to set up a notification agent for that search, go to the drop down menu again, and click on the notification icon.
PM me if you need more help.

you know what worked for me when i had the same problem?... i put an ad in craigslist saying i was looking for one.. therefor youre the only buyer being approached and you have your choice of sellers.. this gives YOU the edge.. and it worked, i got a great deal on my CB550F.. so you could try that.. and ill probably use this technique to add a CB350 to my collection right after im finished moving to another state (less than 2 months)

So I did the notification thing, do you get updates immediately or does it take about an hour or longer for you to get a notification on any new post. My notifications are delayed

Yep if you post wanted on cl it helps out a lot. I've bought 6 bikes in the last year like that. One was actually a 73 cb350f all of them have been around $400.00 range.
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

I here you on that. I knew it was going to be tough finding a cb750 in my local CL because there is at least 3 different posts everyday of someone looking for a cb750, basically all a possible seller needs to do is contact one of these guys and may sell it to them without ever bothering to post and ones that do get posted are usually gone the next day. The only reason I nabbed mine was because my youngest son was searching CL for a cbr for a friend of his when he spotted my 750 and texted me about it. Too late at first though because by the time I called the seller was waiting on another caller who was willing to pick it up that night provided he could find a bike trailer. Lucky for me the other guy couldn't find a trailer soon enough so the buyer contacted me letting me know it was still up for grabs. Lucked out again because my oldest son just happened to live a block and a 1/2 away from where the bike was, he then checked it out for me, struck a deal and it was mine that very night
