77 auto seat cover
« on: May 17, 2013, 05:11:01 PM »
After putting 400 miles on this week and watching the seat seams split more and more, and then doing a little research regarding a replacement seat for my Automatic I contacted Saddlemen seats and they returned with a choice worth trying. It is the cover and foam for a 77 K model. It is the closest they have and includes the foam and cover to fit my seat pan. I will try it in about 10 days when it comes. I used their kit on my 84 Goldwing and two other bikes in the past with good to excellent results. It may not be a perfect replacement but what the heck. Worth a try. Has anyone else recovered an Automatic seat in the event I am unhappy with the results?

Thought you meant a car seat cover by the title. :)

Sorry to mislead ya on the title. Made sense at the time I wrote it??  I talked with Saddlemen and they asured me it is a replacment cover and foam like the original but the description sounds like some double bucket seat design. I really want the original design or close to it. ??

This Thailand source has good fit........correct pattern..........and video of how to install the cover..............TIP...put a plastic bag over the foam to easily slide the cover to the correct position......then remove the bag after you begin securing the cover.

I think you will be OK with the K-model seat and foam...........its an OK pattern for the '78 K model.

Thanks...............I'll be cruising through Nebraska on my way to the Salt Flats in late August. Plan to meet-up with the Grasscutter guy from your area.  He rides a CB650.

Nice looking seat cover. Good price also. Saddlemen gets $124 with the new foam kit + shipping. We will see what happens. It is nice to get as many sources as we can with this old equipment.

If you're interested, I'll sell you my whole seat from my 1978 cb750A. It's clean with no splits, but it's missing the chrome trim.

Ok I finally got the Saddlemen seat and it is very well made and the foam is about perfect but it is not as described to me by the sales dept. It is a large double bucket type that is likely very comfortable but nothing like I was looking for. Does anyone want it before I try to send it back. If you have a faring and saddle bags this might be a nice addition for some one who wants lower Butt/back support. I am now back on the hunt for a replacement and will likely look at the suggestion from Ebay Thanks for the tip

Ended up returning the Saddlemen seat because it was not original looking. It was very nicely made. Good quality stuff.  I did take Scramblers suggestion and bought a Pit Replica out of Thailand and it is a pretty good match. May not be the exact same quality as the OE seat but very nice Reproduction and at 79 dollars and free shipping ya cant beat it. I hope to redo my seat this week and will post a Pic of the result. I am not able to find the Video on there site for their method of replacing the cover. I would like to see it if you have a link.
Thanks
