importing a car from Canada
« on: May 31, 2013, 04:39:31 PM »
My buddy wants a vintage car, found him a sweet '70 Mustang convertible.
But, its in Canada. Spoke with the seller, he offered to deliver to MI, so no issue there.
How difficult would it be to transfer ownership?
Have you or anyone you know done this?
I'll post a pic later.

I took a car across (Canada to US) once that I sold. Ran into issues at the border because a Canadian can't import a personal vehicle. I think I ended up needing a letter from the buyer, an inspection letter from a Ford dealer saying it met US safety standards etc. It's doable, just have to have your paperwork in order.
