Wiring into starter connection question.
« on: June 03, 2013, 07:25:17 AM »
I am replacing the wiring harness in the 1971 CB750K1.  It's been a pretty straightforward process so far with a one for one replacement of the cables.  I have now run into an issue with the wiring into the starter control (next to the battery).

If you look at picture #1, you will see a red connector highlighted in a red box at the top of the picture.  This is the connector on the new wiring harness.  The bottom of the picture (in a larger red box) shows what was connected from the current wiring harness (the red wire was joined to the black wire which contained a fuse in the middle of it.  The second picture is a blow up of the fuse connector.

It's clear that the connector on the new wiring harness does not match up with the connector available to me, but it's also clear that the original wiring harness was cut and this connector was added.  I could modify the new harness the same way and use the same connector, but what should this look like?  What connector should the red wire be going to?  Any help / comments / suggestions appreciated.  Thanks.

If any K1 owners can post a picture of their connector for this wire I would appreciate it.  Thanks.

You might be able to figure it out with the schematic in the manual online.  That fuse link should be going to the key switch

Vinhead,

Thanks for replying.  It's not so much a wiring question (I'm sure I can make it work by splicing the red wire into the fused connector and mimic what was there).  It's just that I bought a new wiring harness and it has a different connector than what I had in place (which was obviously cut), so I would like to see what the correct wiring setup is for a stock 71.  That's why I was asking for a picture.
