if you unbolt the box and the carb-box rubbers are liable enough I suppose that you could move the whole assembly back an inch or so and get sufficient room to remove the o-rings.

But can you get to the lower manifold bolts with the carbs on the bike?

It's worth a try. Worst case is you have to pull the airbox to get enough room to move the carbs back.

Just remove the venturi rubbers and nuts holding the carbs on and you should be able to pull the intakes away from the head by an inch. Getting old o-rings out is the hardest part. Maybe a dental pick or some similar tool. Once you can do that putting new ones back in is a cinch.

I'm in the same situation.
Let me know if you have any luck. I've been thinking about trying the same thing. It'd be nice to have a consistent idle...

Not for nothing, you'd be crazy to do the o-rings and not verify that the carbs are spic&span.  bite the bullet, do the whole job, or chase gremlins for weeks.

already did the carbs... should have changed the O rings then. engine is pretty clean so after a very hot last summer you can see a little staining.

if you had a fine right angle pick tool, you might fish 'em out, but I suspect you're gonna need the airbox boots pushed back
