Looked at a bike tonight, regi is my only issue...
« on: June 22, 2013, 08:34:59 PM »
So I looked at an Amen Savior with a cb750 motor in it, pretty much a complete roller with a bunch of parts and a spare motor. The issue is the only regi it has it to the motor that's not in the bike, the spare motor. There's no vin stamped into the frame anywhere I can see, does anyone have any experience in getting a u-built title for a vintage frame?

I've looked online at all the requirements locally and about the only thing I'll be able to obtain is a bill of sale, my only other option is to stamp the head tube myself with the vin# of the parts bike which has papers but. I don't know how comfortable I am with this.

In BC you canget BCS numbers, but it means inspection.. We used to stamp in the numbers, but now I think its a rivet tag.. Its a bad idea to try to put stock numbers onto a custom frame.. Some cops do know the difference..

Frank, do you have any experience getting a title without any of the paperwork on something like this? I won't have a manufacturers declaration on either motor or frame, same goes with regi. Would stripping it to the frame and approaching icbc with a bill of sale on the frame only be an option?

I did mine back in 78. Things changed a bit.
I think they want a whole bike to look at with receipts. Before they will issue registration..

Is there anywhere specific I should be looking for a vin on an Amen fame? Hell I dont even know if its a real Amen or some other manufacture that made a plunger frame, off to hondachopper.com I guess.

Well after digging on Hondachoppers I'm pretty sure its an Amen Savior, here's a couple shots I took today. Was in a storage locker so the pics arent the best.

An Amen has two nearly indentical motor mounts on rear of engine, the axle is in the middle of the rear plungers if it is an Amen Saviour frame.

Frank, motor mount points are at the back and under near the front only. For sure one of the side mounts comes off the frame, I'm guessing to make it easy to lay the frame over the motor. It has the gusset under the head tube for mounting the coils as well, looks like an Amen from all the catalouge pics on hondachopper.com. 6 over forks and the tri header as well

That is a savior it appears that the engine mount is 2845 se wearwelded  to the frame on the right side I have a amen rigid that is the same way. But my savior has both mounts that are removeable. As far as your titling goes register the papered bike then put the everything on the savior frame I did it with mine it was easy because I had a title that was already issued for my state which means no inspection they don't even have to look at the bike. Now if it is from another state or it doesn't have a title (must be 35yrs or older) then it has to be inspected which all they do here is check the vin. But the bike has to be complete and look like it will run. When all that is done the. Switch it all over I've took off the vin plate and put it on custom frames until recently here in ks I found out they don't go by vin plates anymore it has to be stamped on the frame. This is where my son comes in he stamped the vin on my savior on the neck just like it was on the honda you can not tell the difference. I was looking at other choppers last weekend with  custom frames and all the numbers where stamped in the same fashion. The important question is how comfortable are you doing this. You have know how your local pigs are here they are to lazy to look at the vin they just want proof of insurance so I have me never had a problem. Lastly congrats on the bike it's a nice one
I've done a lot of things in my life that I'm not proud of...and the things I AM proud of, "are disgusting"

Some AMEN frames had VIN # stamped in the backbone under the tank. I KNOW from personal experience, ( IN THE USA) you CAN have a MC registered by engine # only. If Canada recognizes that title, then put that engine in the SAVIOR frame and roll with it!!. IF NOT, you'll need to get a CUSTOM build title. This is a PITA, you'll need a BOS for the frame and EVERY major part  you put on it ie. Engine, wheels forks, to prove where you got the parts.  Then IF Canada has an antique law about age of vehicles you WON'T and CAN'T qualify for it because you will be registered as a 2013 MODEL M/C..

GOOD LUCK

Xnavylfr.

I talked to icbc today and I'd be looking at a u-build title and all the inspection process for it and there's still a chance i wont get a title, my only other option is to rebuild the motor with the title and run it without a vin on the frame. A couple of my buddies that build choppers have that setup with their ironhead chops, regi is tied to the motor and the paperwork say "black Harley''. None of them have had any problems and get routinely stopped on a reg. and get hassled by the man lol. I'm going to call the seller today, if I can get it all for the right price I'll probably grab it.
