Trade my triumph for sr500?

So I've I had a 69 T100R for almost a decade...here are a few pics...

I've just never been passionate about brit bikes...and I love the look and scarcity of the sr500. Thoughts?

I wouldn't but I'd love to have an old Triumph. Want to trade for a K6 project bike that has been sitting for a few years?

Is he giving you two SR,s then it would be an ok deal.
Passed up a raked SR project a few weeks back, needed some things ..probably was300 bux or less.. Think they may have ended up binning it..

A big part of ownership is having a passion for what you ride so from what you say it sounds like something to consider.  The SR500 are great bikes and hard to come by.  That price seems not to out of line, maybe a little high,  for a bike in such nice condition.  They are climbing in value but the Triumph of course is worth more so you should end up with some $$$ too.   I would like one myself but nothing has found me yet.  I almost bought one new in 1979 but bought my XS650 instead.  Many of them have an aftermarket oiling mod so check that out if you are not familar with it.

Your trump has always been my standard for what a classic bike should look like. The sr is a cool bike, but I think your bike is worth more if it is up and running.

I like the SR500, but if I were going to trade a vintage Triumph for a Japanese thumper it would have to be the Honda GB500, the most British of the Jap singles.

Alternatively I would pick up another Royal Enfield Bullet 500. Slower than the SR and GB, but authentic Brit single despite being built in Chenai, India.

Thanks for the replies. I think most peoples knee jerk reaction is that the Triumph is worth more, but I honestly think 2500-3000 is what it would go for on EGay. There are a couple out there now that are close to 6 G's, but I honestly don't think mine would go for that much. I also think the sr is priced about right at $2800. I emailed the dude, and responded back pretty quick and said he was interested. I'm thinking I will hit him up for trade + $$$ and see what hes thinking. I guess another option could be to actually put the triumph on egay at 4K plus and just see if I get any bites.

I found a suitor. I tested ebay and went as low at $2800 and did not find a buyer for the Triumph. Connected with a dude in Va that has an SR in what looks to be close to mint condition (see pic) with 10K miles.

The quirkyness of the SR is what gets me. Lets review..

#1 - Oil in the frame
#2 - No starter...kicker only (name me a 70's or 80's street only bike that has this...no really, there may be one out there, but I don't know it)
#3 - Skid plate

Maybe I'll regret it but que sera sera!!!  :-X

I was never a fan of the SR500, which are pretty common around here, but I had an XT500 dirt bike, and that's where the SR cam from, people were putting road tires on XT500's (and TT500's) and racing them and then the SR500 was born. I'd much rather have your Triumph. Cheers, Terry. ;D

Ironic ain't it? For the equivalent of 2800 here in the UK you'd have had your hand bitten off! And it started life here! You would be looking at double that in a UK Fleabay auction I reckon.

I've got a thing about the old thumpers as well, and my project currently is a '87 SRX600, another cousin of the XT with a cafe look. Ever considered one?

My 76 Kawi KZ400 is kick-only FWIW.. The S models, not the D's.
