1976 cb750f ?'s
« on: July 30, 2013, 10:07:48 AM »
So im trying to put my fathers 1976 honda cb750f back on the road. the bike has sat for about 10+ years. and of course i poured about a gallon of fuel in the tank for #$%*s and giggles to see if just maybe it would start hondas do run forever. and before i could hit the button my leg was wet with gas. i removed the tank and found it has a pin hole or two. so im looking for a replacment tank and or options to fix this one. My ? is what year tanks will fit this bike and does anyone maybe have one for sale. hopefully this weekend i can put some pics of the bike up here. my father bought it brand new in 76 and it was his pride and joy and now that he isnt able to ride i would like to get going again and ride it myself i know he would like to see it go down the rode a few more times. any help is greatly appreciated and thanks in advance. Mitch

Unfortunately due to the different side panels you will have to look for another 750F tank. You may be able to fix the existing tank though depending on how bad the hole is and if there are more.

First you need to clean out the tank and see if you can find any more holes. I would also lightly sand around the hole you found (you're going to have to repaint the tank anyway at this point) to find out how bad the hole really is.

You can line the tank with a product like POR-15 or Kreem and seal up small holes. With some checking around you might also find a radiator repair shop that will weld up the hole(s).

i had bad experience with a allready kreem lined tank on my 76 f.  wound up buying a 78k tank.  after an acid wash and rinse, red kote is your friend.  the professional shops use on everything from lawnmowers to heavy equipment tanks.

As mentioned above, an F tank is what you want. An F0 or '75 tank is the same as yours, assuming your '76 still has a '76 tank. '77 and '78 tanks will fit, but the petcocks are different and the fuel line routes slightly differently. It works fine tho, I have a "78 tank on my '75F.

These tanks, especially nice ones, are NOT plentiful. Be patient as it may take some time to find a good one. EBay it every day.

75 - 78 will all work. If you find a 77-78 try to get the petcock with it.

Welcome. Good F tanks can be hard to find and expensive when you do.
The cafe guys like them and drive up prices.
Here is a decent one....
