Ok Larry, caught up on thread this morning, I like the paintwork. Very nice. But where is the photos of the bike?

;D
I have been fighting the weather clock as well. My Crown Vic has been down for a timing chain tensioner/chain job..well, it doesn't need it. So, the problem is elsewhere, broken valve spring or cam follower most likely...
Bus I bought for conversion to motorcycle hauler for my business needed some cleanup for corrosion and I tore into it rather than leaving it alone. Had our first flurries yesterday.

So you bit the bullet and bought the bus.  Best wishes with the endeavor-you deserve a few good turns on luck.

The bike has not been touched since I got the tank back(actually still waiting on the side covers) as I have been spending all my free time scraping, priming and painting the porch.  lGoing  out soon today to do more patchwork.   I will post some photos soon.

Oh, I did pick up the graphics, cost me $44 for Honda logo, CB400F and two pink ribbons.  Good deal, the person I previously used charged me double that.

Still have not worked on the bike and still am waiting for the side covers-painter said he would have them 2 Sundays ago, called him today and covers still not  done.  I am using most all my spare time to get as much scraping, priming and painting done outside while the daytime temp is over 40 or so.  I am using Behr Marquee, which can be applied as long as it is over 35.

Process involved using a heat gun and various scrapers to remove most all the old paint- then priming with Zinsser Cover Stain, patching with Bonda and Ready Patch, another coat of primer of the patchwork, and a coat of paint.  I will put the second coat on come springtime.  I have most all daylight hours (other than work) working on the porch the past several weeks.

A couple before and afters

I also scraped, primed and painted all the windows that could be reached from a 22' ladder.  Too old to go any higher ??? so the upper windows will be done by someone other than me.  Ladders are the leading cause of accidents for men over 60.

More photos

Still have more work to do but at least majority of the woodwork is protected with paint. The flooring will be painted the brick red color, the fascia around the bottom needs to be replaced and will be painted the pumpkin color, the lattice needs to be blasted(I could not do that because I had to have my well pump replaced to the tune of 1600) and the right post has to be rebuilt.   Check out the damage :o
[imghttp://i70[/img]http://

Those photos were taken quite a while ago and some work has been done but that side still needs repair.

I also spent a week or so scraping, priming and  painted part of the barn to see what it will look like when finished

The cupola in the foreground belongs on the top of the barn-I had to remake all the scalloped trim around the bottom and patch a large section of the sloped part.  The directionals will have to be designed and made as whatever was up there is long gone.  I purchased a 10" copper ball to put on the top. This is a photo taken when I moved in before it was taken down to restore.

The deck also kept me away from the bike as that was redone last year but I was not happy with the result so I redid it again this year.  I put two coats of custom mixed Restore on the decking and repaired some of the pickets.  When I bought it and now

Also, painted the storage shed in the back.  It is where my Sabre, Suzi, Xl125, Silverwing and one 750 are stored, also lawn mower, extra wheels and garden equipment are kept.

Hard to tell but I also repaired an painted the Bilco cellar door with a beautiful hammered copper paint, which was also used on the porch flashing.

Enough excuses :P  As soon as I get the side covers I'll get back to the bike, that is unless the weather warms up a bit and I can get more done on the beat up, old, grand Victorian residence...Larry

Looks great Larry. I also do all the painting on my house, hate to pay someone when I can do it.  But the wife and I rarely agree on a color, we've been talking about painting the LR for 5 years! (Paint condition is fine, the color is just bland).
How old is the home?

Steve,  I work in the paint dept. so I get to see the"bickering" between husband and wife regarding color selection,    btw, the woman always wins ;)   And you have two more years to go as research shows that the average time between redecorating is 7 years.  I find painting relaxing and rewarding, but not as much as restoring an old sohc ;D.  The photos show the rewarding part.

The house was built in 1905 and was the residence for the local Veterinarian.  He died and left it to his daughter, who let it run down.  It was then purchased by the owner of the Gap Diner(which is right behind my house)) who did some renovations back in the 80s. She moved out and left her daughter the house-who promptly let it rundown again.  I  moved in last year with plans to return the house back to 1905.  It is 2000 sq. ft., 4 bedroom, 2 1/2 bath(only one  is useable as of now).  old thread  http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=104661.msg1170166#msg1170166.  off to work, store opens 6am :'( ...Larry

Nothing done this entire year as i decided I had to work on the house.  I was hit with the reality that at 67 I better get some of the exterior work done while I am still able.  In the two years I've been here I scraped and painted most of the windows(the ones I could safely reach with my 16' extension ladder), did the same with the front porch,  sanded and stained the rear deck, painted the siding(most of the house is brick), ripped up all the wall to wall carpet and cleaned the hardwood floors and bought vintage Oriental rugs, repaired and painted the living room, parlor, dining room, kitchen and one of the 4 bedrooms as well as the hallway and stairwell, cleared out and cleaned the barn and painted the entire inside white so it is no longer a dark, dingy uninviting shop,  dug and landscaped three beds, painted my 12x24 motorcycle storage shed.   Spent quite a bit of time decorating the house so that it looks like one is walking back into 1905 when they enter the door

Plus to top it off, I actually was burned out with sohc bikes-I have not ridden  one this year :-[ :-[ :-[  I managed to get my Sabre back on the road without pulling the motor to repair the massive oil leak-bike was free and only cost less than 10$ to repair.  I use it and  my PC as daily riders and once a month ride the 66 Suzi S32 to the Ephrata motorcycle breakfast rally.  Also, I bought a 1977 El Camino and did some of the restoration work, but most was done professionally by a friend

Thanks for asking, maybe I'll get back to it this winter but first I need to finish a 1971 Ct90 that is a basket case restoration for a customer...Larry

MoMo,
Hope you've made some headway on the bathroom.
I've been there with tile work I dreaded and kept putting off.
Tile on wall decided to get water behind it and the house was a '74 build so they used regular drywall instead of cement board or greenboard. I replaced the drywall with greenboard and cleaned the tile up and reset it and grouted the repaired wall, I redid the tile up the wall about 2 feet instead of redoing the entire wall around the tub, that would have been easier but I reused the tile I had and replaced the broken tiles (a few ended up broken) with some pastel mint green alternating with the tan speckled cream tile. Then sealed the grout after it cured.
All this while it was the only functioning full bath for a family of four.
Then there was the replacement of subflooring around the toilet where the wax seal had leaked... More ugh!
So, I can relate to issues with bathrooms.
Failed to maintain the grout sealing causing the water to soak the wall behind the drywall, was ignorant of that. The bathroom had carpet, it hid the leaking wax seal and the bathroom got enough ventilation that it didnt' have a problem with odor tipping me off to the subfloor until the water had already compromised the plywood to the point where the toilet didn't sit solidly and had give...
We were lucky it didn't do more damage.
I guess it was neglected maintenance in some ways.
I'm not a fan of carpet in the bathroom, kitchen, or anywhere but bedrooms really. Prefer tile or wood floors with carpets like your persians or oriental carpets or "throw rugs"

good to hear from you David!  Most of my  problems have been due to the past owner's neglect but some were due to my lack of knowledge(like I did not realize how the tub spigot worked and water ran  back down the copper pipe and then behind the wall).  I woke up these past two days to partially frozen pipes(did not have a problem the past two winters) and was fortunate to get them thawed before bursting started.  I am seriously considering moving south.  Larry

This recent cold snap really makes you miss warm weather.
We are lucky here that Dec mean temp is in 40s and Jan isn't below 35 normally.
I wish I were still living in AZ, just haven't managed to have many friends here despite growing up here. Being introverted and not highly outgoing I don't make friends as easily as those who are people magnets and highly outgoing.  I have lived over 2/3 my life away. 2 years about 50 miles away in NW NC, 19 yrs in Columbus Ohio area and 8 yrs in Southern AZ (Tucson & Sierra Vista). Just don't feel connected here anymore.
TN doesn't have a State Income tax and if you choose where you live carefully you can be in a area with decent amenities and low crime and beautiful area. Eastern TN, western NC, northern GA offer mountain and hilly terrain with great riding in the curvy backroads and secondary roads. You can even find great old houses with large barn like garages similar to your in small towns.  Unless you are near a major city the property and house prices are reasonable or lower than most of the country. Great place to retire to if you choose where wisely.

I understand the sentiments and the knowledge gap, much of my issues were ignorance as I hadn't studied those issues and encountered the issues. Just like the most of the motorcycle and car issues I encounter.

How's the employment situation in the Philly and surrounding areas? Here in NE Tennessee it is higher than most of the state.

The house is looking good. l like what you've shared.
I would guess your plumbing could be a weak point in a 1905 circa house unless it was previously updated. Electric being a close second with post to post ceramic insulated wiring being common. Being lathe and plaster construction makes updating either more expensive. I have worked with plaster and enjoy it but, it is more time-consuming and expensive than drywall.

Just saw the posts about your old house work.  If you haven't heard of it, there are 2 fantastic products that i've used a number of times over the years on my 1920 house's rotted wood.

http://www.abatron.com/shop-online/woodepox.html

Abatron makes a WoodEpox that is the best filler rebuilder i've ever used.  Comes in a 2 part mixture you kneed together with your hands and then fill in the form.  Lots of internet videos giving examples of this.

They also make an epoxy called LiquidWood....this you can brush onto spongy old rotted wood and it makes it hard as a rock and is now waterproof and paintable.  Works great as a base before using the WoodEpox.

Nice thing about these is they also don't smell :)  I've rebuilt a number of my window sash's and sills with this stuff.  Filled a few holes that were larger than my fist.  Just dig out most of the really bad wood, coat it with the LiquidWood (soaks into the remaining porous wood) and then fill and shape the WoodEpox.

I always keep some of each of these products around.

Cheers, Joe

Just putting in a good word for living in N. GA.  I'm from Rochester, NY....used to lots of cold weather and lake effect snow.  Lived seven years in W.V. and it just didn't work for us.  Some great roads but a very poor state with limited resources and amenities.  We moved to N. GA twenty-five years ago and love it.  Atlanta is an hour away and the airport just a bit further. But everything is moving north out of Atlanta and the economy and culture fairly strong and vibrant.

Hard to find a good NY bagel, but other than that...we love it.  Four seasons, a tad hot in the summer but essentially you can ride twelve months a year if you want to.   We do a lot of bicycle riding as well.  Best of all....I don't need a snow shovel!

No,  MoMo has lost his motorcycle mojo and is devoting most of my spare time to the house,  one of these days I'll get back to it-too cold out in the barn ...Larry

Matt,   I started selling off some of the stuff I have for a possible move and future wedding.. Sarah is getting married in October so I'll need money for the wedding

Steve, you are right the bike does need to get finished .  It will be for sale along with my two 750s, PC, and maybe my Sabre.  Only bike I definitely plan to keep(but of course the right offer could persuade me otherwise) is the S32.

Well after almost a year of Ver. 8.0 neglect I pulled it out of the shed and started work on it.  :-[ :-[ :-[  It was difficult to find parts that had been boxed up when I moved my shop from the single bay garage to the double bay.  As this is somewhat of a Frankenbike the loss of parts did not matter all that much as I would find something else to make do(trying to use the old necessity is the mother of invention).  As an aside I had several Mothers album and sold them of Ebay for 25 to 45$ each ;D..  The front headlight and turn signals are from an early model Yamaha.

I like the large headlight, reminds me of the Opel photo in an earlier post.   The speedo bracket was something I half-assed made, so not being a fabricator I need to have someone make a  more professional looking bracket.

The seat cover bothers me, the painter suggested white and I told him I would think about it so he decided to give it to the guy who reupholstered my El Camino to be recovered.  Cost me a 150$ :o, could have bought one for half that cost-what bothers me is the cover is white whereas the bike is pearl, which makes the seat stand out like a sore thumb.

I waited so long to put the graphics on that parts of the letters are a bit crinkled, presentable but not perfect.

And BTW.....................................THE BIKE RUNS

Congrats!  Nice to hear that it runs and is assembled. Tuning a bit and what else is needed?

I think another color seat would be better,  but...leave it for ths new owner.
At least he didn't get the pink metalflake vinyl and cover it in that! You know what I am talking about,  carnival rides and banana seats for bicycles...
A white seat would be a hard sell for me, regardless of the bike's color scheme.

So, give it some daylight shots when it isn't rainy and overcast so we see it in all its glory.
