I don't know why he wouldn't want a '75. The 75-77 are the superbikes of the the GoldWing family. The later bikes became more and more touring oriented and you can't get a factory naked GoldWing after '84.
That said, I also wouldn't recommend a GoldWing for around town commuting. They are heavy, wide, and not particularly fuel efficient, I get mid 20's around town and high 30's on the highway. Mine happens to have a fairing and full bags, which doesn't help make it any lighter or narrower, but even if it didn't it would be an inferior city commuter to the CB550 I sold to buy it. That's why I am working to complete the build of another CB550.
To my mind the 550 is the ideal commuter. Relatively light, nimble, easy to park, good gas mileage, and still plenty of power for highway riding. My GL is better for multihour touring, but as an all around bike the 550 is better.
