So finally got the head off yesterday, had to free a stuck piston but after inspecting the head I noticed these worn grooves from what I can only pinpoint as being caused by the cam chain.

Does wearing like this warrant me having to get a new head or can I file down the rough edges and continue using it?

Thanks!

I say smooth it out good and you are good. Just make sure you fix what made it happen.

Seems there is enough meat left. I would use it.

I wouldn't worry about that. I'd worry about what caused that. Was it put together properly? New heavy duty cam chain and sprocket and chain guide and rollers.

Agree with all the comments so far; yes you can work with this head, but I would look at what caused this. On a side note, I would really go over the cam chain with a fine tooth comb, as it may have suffered some extreme stress.

Could you elaborate on the stuck piston; was this a running motor???
