we went to another track day... and borrowed tracy's race bikes.

anyway... elizabeth told the announcer it was my birthday and anyone that would like to wish me a happy birthday in person should look for the power ranger racer.

It's looking good but I won't commint on the power ranger suit.

If I ever get my 550 done I would like to get/ find a 350 or 400/4.

It looks like you work on a similar schedule that I do.

I wonder, out loud, who will ride theirs first?

tanks, man... i get discouraged while wrenching on it when i can't afford tires... 2 bikes and a car that run and tires seem more important for them, if you know what i mean.
i hope to make progress this year to the point of it running and racing by the time the season closes.

In the distant future, when archaeologists find your 400F, they'll be able to tell in which era each section of the bike was put together by comparing the various sedimentary layers.

Just wait.......some day you'll have to decide between working on the bike and putting tires on the kids car

Okay, now back to the build:

So I've seen the nifty new carbon fiber bits you've put on the bike, but how's the engine part of the build coming along?

Can we get an update on the engine plans, or do I have to look back through the dusty archives of this build?

I've decided not to break the cases and hope the tranny is good... if it is not i have a good one purchased thru ebay.
removed the starter and charging bits.
cleaned up the cylinders w/ terry the other day and threw them back on.
just re-gasketing everything, basically and hoping for the best.

i'm having trouble w/ the starter hole plug... i can't seem to get it to stay in. i made the plug and i think it would work well... except that it is tapered and i can pull it out easily. I'll have to find a non-tapered rubber bushing to see if that will work. its a simple plug setup... rubber bushing w/ a hole drilled in the center for a screw w/ washer on each end to compress the rubber when tightened w/ a wingnut.
so, if anyone knows where to find a non-tapered rubber bushing... let me know.

I think that was a good decision. Unless this engine had an ungodly amount of miles on it, chances are the main components are in good shape. The parts I would replace (while you have it apart) are the cam chain tensioner parts, since these are the achilles heel of the 350/400. Although I don't know if you can do that without splitting the cases on the 400.

Worst case scenario is that you'll have to take it down again, but that's really not a big deal on a 400.

How long until this is up and running? Can we get it to a track day this Summer?

my #$%*tastic memory tells me when i got the bike there was a tranny issue... my only reason for ever wanting to go in there in the first place. i'm gonna hope my memory sucks as much as i remember it sucking.

tensioner can be replaced. i thought they were unobtanium. $:-\$ am i wrong?

long as it runs upon rebuild or sometime thereafter... should be able to get it on the track... NEED $ FOR TIRES

This is a universal freeze plug replacement, might not be the right size, but they have others and it's definitely the right idea. Funny thing is, I've been trying to figure out how to plug the starter hole on mine, but couldn't come up with anything. As soon as I read your post I knew just what to use.
Any auto parts store should stock these things.

Not to derail heffays thread, but 45-50 rwhp, 30+lbft. Weight should be 250-260lbs.

as long as this thread spawned the discussion... i have no problem w/ small talk. its the beauty of forums.

linder... our one and only track in colorado is opening for the very first time this season. well, actually, they did reopen pikes peak international raceway after a 4 or 5 year hiatus. but i'm unsure of classes right now.

i think triffecpa might be able to answer that question better.

In omrra, at PIR, your 400 would be in... lesee...

senior supersport 600, senior superbike 600...

Both of those would be terrible... you'd be racing 2004 (or earlier) gsxr600's, cbr600rr's, and r6's..

Then theres ultra light weight superbike... which would also be a nightmare, but not quite as bad....

Yeah, we don't have jack or #$%* for anything newer than 69 (72 for some models, like the 350t) or older than late 90's. Kinda sucks.
