A 3d printed mock-up of the new bracket. I will cut the existing tab off and leave a section for the new bracket to slip over (the interior slot) then bolt the bracket thru the tab for strength. Since the new bracket is Aluminum, I need the existing steel tab for welded strength. Make sense?

I can't mill the new bracket until I finish the swing arm so I can verify relief on the backside.

I'll get a picture tomorrow of the bike with the seat repair. Gotta run a heap of errands and working on my 16yo's suzuki  :'( Carbs are in need of serious attention.

Edit: this time with a picture Doh!

3d Printing!!  Wow, Cal, that is slick.  It must be great for mocking up before milling metal.  Cool slip over idea.

Cal, I'm not one to hand out advice.......but...don't you think it's time to stop mooching off your buddies and buy your own CNC mill?  We all know your loaded and I sure need to get some parts made.

If not for me, then they'd have no friends, Kev. Mooching? I think of it as inspiring their capabilities. I always challenge them with the maxim: Don't tell me I am a more creative designer than you are an engineer?

That gets the machine cutting pretty damn quick!  ::)

So a couple of status pictures after seat repair... Got to get the seat upholstery done now.

And I just ordered 2 new MotoGadget m-switches to replace the existing multi switch in the left side (broken from last year's spill). So I get to re-wire some of that again..

No, we are sticking with duals for this build. Too much configuration to implement it with the hoop and swing arm we have in store.

Ugg.  Not what I wanted to hear.  Crap because not re-buildable or crap because way too soft or something else?  I just put a pair on the 750 Blaster.  They seem OK so far.

I think they have horrible damping and little rebound. I first used HD springs then dropped to their regulars. Not much different. There's little adjustability too. Thought they'd be okay for a kids bike, but they've (boys) have noticed the difference compared to YSS unit on their Suzuki. So I'll need to replace them.

Maybe my boys are too soft in the butt?   :P

I once had a pair of Progressives.  Pretty lackluster shocks -- although they now make piggyback reservoir models that are supposed to be halfway good -- but no fitment for Honda clevis yet.

To anyone that cares, or might be contemplating MotoGadget stuff, or electronic gauges in general: the M-Unit is unbelievably worth the money. Their gauge is down right pricey, but, this unit is an analog Tach with a small LCD screen that provides:
Electronic speed (magnetic sensor installed under clutch cover, reading magnet applied to sprocket bolt, thanks Devin for the great idea)

I'd love to hear more about how you installed this. I've recently bought the Motoscope Pro, and have been trying to think of the best way to mount the sensor.

Marsvar - I installed a magnet on the front sprocket bolt by adhering it with some epoxy and drilled a small recess in the head of the sprocket bolt. Then, on the underside of the sprocket cover, I welded a small tab of metal parallel to the cover, but hung it off the sprocket shroud. It looks like a small metal ear that gave me enough area to locate the sensor exactly opposite the bolt.

Then I drilled a small hole in the tab, installed the sensor and double-nutted it to secure it. Now, as the sprocket rotates, it passes the sensor.

http://www.cmsnl.com/honda-cb550k0-four-1975-usa_model465/partslist/E++04.html#results

Basically, if you look at part number 2 in the diagram, I added a small piece on the inside of the right hand side, to the left of the large hole the shift shaft passes thru. If it weren't pouring rain, and I didn't have so much to do today, I'd snap a picture.

The wiring runs along the underside of the cover, loops back around to the motor, then joins up with the Neutral and Oil pressure wiring, and up to the gauge. This allows a perfect register for the speed sensor, and you can adjust the WHEELSIZE parameter on your MG to fine tune your speed setting. I clocked my bike against my car's cruise control at 30. 40, 50 and 60MPH. I found that 5mm of parameter adjustment worked out to about 1 MPH correction.

The only think you need to be wary of is the distance offset from the sprocket. The sensor needs to be within a certain proximity, so you must locate the sensor in two planes: laterally to register, and distance from the sensor so as not to contact the sprocket, took a bit of fiddling to get it perfect. I think on my 500 build, I will install the sensor before I put the motor in the frame this time, or at least locate the darn thing. It would be much easier to do with no frame in the way.

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of it's victim may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated, but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." - C.S. Thanks! I have a CB 750, it looks like the parts differ a bit from the 550. I'll see if it possible to apply the same method to mine.

I think there might be room on the inside of part #1. I have my engine out at the moment, so I have a good opportunity to find a good spot without fiddling too much with it.
